Sarah Connor and Fringe
Sep. 10th, 2008 02:05 amWatched the S2 premiere of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. In a word: awesome. That opening sequence was so incredibly beautiful. The music just worked so well with the visuals... it was one of those magical television moments. Gorgeous. The rest of the episode was pretty damn good, too. I'm with the people who think that John killed the man, not Sarah -- she was so intensely concerned with his well-being afterwards.
And now we're seeing one of the reasons that they picked this age to use for John -- it's time for him to start making decisions on his own, decisions that his mother wouldn't make. Natural part of growing up. I'm glad that we had Cameron affirm to both the audience and Sarah that she agrees with Sarah's decision. I found the scene between Derek and... Sarah's ex-guy (what was his name?) intriguing. Derek was very interesting (and a bit of an ass) there. "So you say."
Ellison was awesome and I'm very intrigued by our new T-1000.
Excellent episode.
I also watched the premiere of the new show Fringe and quite enjoyed it. Maybe it's just because I watched TSCC right before it, but Olivia's pitch and tone reminded me very strongly of Sarah's. This is not a bad thing!
I really liked Olivia -- I was very involved in her side of the story even before Josh Jackson's character (Peter) showed up. Really enjoyed the bit where she told her boyfriend that she loved him, too. I completely believed her.
I'm really enjoying the way Peter interacts with her (and how that changed and grew throughout the pilot, to the point where his primary concern in their final scene is her emotional well-being) and with his father.
I'm really hoping that Olivia won't be the only female regular with four male regulars. That would make me a bit sad. I do really like Charlie and the new agent over her who is her introduction into the 'fringe'. I think that the show has a lot of potential.
Peter and Olivia have a lot of chemistry -- as I mentioned up a bit, he really seems to grow quite attached to her over the course of the pilot (after being a dismissive jerk to her near the beginning). And, you know, he broke a man's fingers for her. There's that.

Date: 2008-09-10 11:57 am (UTC)As for T:SCC ... Watched the S2 premiere of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. In a word: awesome. That opening sequence was so incredibly beautiful. The music just worked so well with the visuals... it was one of those magical television moments. Gorgeous.
Literally jaw-dropping in my opinion. And I so want that Shirley Manson song. (I've always been a huge Garbage fan, so that likely helped with myl oving the song). The whole thing was just so kick-ass.

Totally. As I said in my write-up of it, I just watched all of the first season this weekend and the episode before this a point is made that Sarah's never killed anyone, so we would have seen fall-out from that had she. Also, Sarah kept trying to get him to open up after the house events, when he wouldn't, she said 'fine, let's talk about Cameron.' Meaning it wasn't Cameron going all bad that she wanted to talk to him about.
And now we're seeing one of the reasons that they picked this age to use for John -- it's time for him to start making decisions on his own, decisions that his mother wouldn't make. Yup, yup, yup. This was the first time we saw John truly make a JOHN decision. It was an important first step. And I did LOVE that Cameron/Sarah scene, but then I LOVE pretty much any Cameron/Sarah scene.
I found the scene between Derek and... Sarah's ex-guy (what was his name?) intriguing. Derek was very interesting (and a bit of an ass) there. "So you say."
Charlie. I think the whole point of that scene was foreshadowing for Charlie being too into Sarah and her issues if he loves his wife so much, which was why we had Derek being ass-y ... to bring that point out.

Yup and yup. Sigh. I'm just so bummed it got disappointing ratings. Double sigh.
Excellent episode.

Date: 2008-09-10 04:32 pm (UTC)I didn't see the leaked version, so I have no idea. You could tell me what turned you off the show and I could say whether or not it's still there?

Her voice is awesome. I love Garbage, too (though amusingly enough, I missed her title card and kept going, "wow, that new person reminds me so much of Shirley Manson from Garbage" without twigging that it was really her -- has she ever acted in anything before?).

Cameron's relationships with each of the Connors is fascinating.

Hee. I'm not sure that Derek actually needs any prompting to be an ass.
I'm just so bummed it got disappointing ratings.
That is sad.

Date: 2008-09-11 12:16 am (UTC)I don't even remember. I was in the middle of a major Who high, so it's likely I just wasn't in the mood to watch it. I'll download the one that aired and give it another shot.

I knew she was in it, so I was looking for her, though hee! to thinking it was her singing. And, damnit, I WANT that song!!!! I'm not having any luck so far though. This is her first acting gig (although, she's currently signed up for some other thing too). I thought she did damn good.

Yup. I watched this show for Summer Glau and she has NOT disappointed at all. I love her.
Hee. I'm not sure that Derek actually needs any prompting to be an ass.
True, true. LOL!

Hopefully, they'll at least even out and not drop that much further and we MAY get a full season still with the next Terminator movie coming out in May. Fox'll want all the promotional mileage they can get and THAT might turn around and help the show in turn. Hey, I can dream. All nine episodes of season one were SO VERY AWESOME and this one didn't disappoint AT ALL!!
