Gay Soap Opera Boys: Alles Was Zaehlt

I've been hooked by another pair of German GSOB, only this pair is a complete contrast to Christian/Oliver (who manage to be healthy and communicate honestly with each other and resolve things in an oddly sane way considering that they live on a soap).

Deniz and Roman: Lustful. Deceptive. Very unhealthy.

Really kinda hot.

So, Roman has been on the show for a while (I'm guessing) because he had this thing with a ballet teacher (Andrew) who wanted to wrap him up in a blanket of kisses and take him away from his hard life as an ice skater. But Roman wanted to make it on his own, so Andrew left the show. They were kinda hot.

But now Roman is alone, just... dunno, wandering around being hot and ice skating. He spies this one hot guy and goes, "hmm, hot" and then turns and spies a different guy and falls in immediate lust to the sound of Justin Timberlake's "Sexyback" (I am not making this up). Best part? Second hot guy is the son of first hot guy.

Anyway, Second Hot Guy is Deniz, who is an ice hockey player. He is 17 (Roman is around 25 or 26). This should probably be taken into account on some level, but I watched Queer as Folk (UK) and that had twenty-nine year old Stuart Alan Jones sexing it up with fifteen year old Nathan, so 17/26 doesn't really phase me much.

Roman kisses Deniz as a joke on TV. And thus starts Deniz's coming out story, which features homophobic ice hockey players who beat up Roman, crying in a shower stall, and eventual getting together and being boyfriends in public for Deniz and Roman.

Then Deniz goes crazy and starts sleeping with his best friend Vanessa, while he's still with Roman. Eventually, Roman finds out and Deniz picks Vanessa (I'm assuming because he's still crazy, though she is cute, but they not only have zero chemistry but actually manage to break into the negative numbers at times -- she's apparently with him in part because the only dude she has chemistry with and really wants to sex up is her biological brother -- and she apparently actually did sleep with him at least once). There's a whole lot of really sad/pathetic stuff that happens because Roman is, like, crazy in love with Deniz (emphasis on 'crazy') and Deniz is trying to convince everyone that he loves and desires Vanessa while displaying a hundred times more sexual attraction to and interest in Roman. Roman appears to eventually gets over his mad fits of jealousy but it's pretty ugly for a while.

Then Deniz kisses Roman. Then kisses him again on a dare. Then kisses him again after Deniz has just done drugs. At some point in all this, I think he and Vanessa may have broken up. I think! I'm mostly paying attention to the kissing, to be honest. Side question: why is gay porn so boring and not at all hot but gay soap opera/drama couples are really incredibly hot?

Deniz appears to be really, really fucked up. Also, he's a total cheater. But Roman is kinda manipulative (but he has a slashy best friend, which is always fun). And they're really hot together. I'm not particularly pulling for them to stay together and be adorable for all of ever, the way I am Oliver and Christian, I'm just rooting for them to have lots and lots of more hot kissing together. Three cheers for hot kissing, I say.

My favourite soap pairing, though, as to be John Paul and Kieron from Hollyoaks. Forbidden teenage priest sex! What more can you want?

Sadly, no. I can only hope that they will start to have yet more sex on the show and that this might prompt people to write about them (though! They've already had sex against the wall of a locker room and this didn't seem to help). Their relationship is so incredibly unhealthy, but I find myself really wishing that more of it would air.

If all else fails, I may have to teach myself more German.

I have not gotten to them yet. But I suspect that will change. I had no notion how addicting soap opera couples could be.

I started watching Roman/Deniz before Christmas and they were so cute and lovely together - not quite on a par with Christian/Olli but definitely adorable. And then it all went to hell in a handbasket. *sighs* A German friend of mine tells me that there was a trailer for AWZ which had a clip of Deniz and Roman, I don't know, standing next to each other or something, with the subtitle "Love", so maybe there's hope somewhere for less insanity and more hot kissing?

I'm backing Ingo/Roman/Annette now, because Ingo would clearly have no problem with it. ;)

I think that I kinda understand why, though. If we take as our premise that Deniz is horny, insecure, selfish, and a bit of an asshole, his actions do make sense. He definitely seems far more attracted to Roman than to Vanessa, but I don't think that Vanessa makes him feel insecure the way that (older, accomplished) Roman does. Sleeping with Vanessa gave him a place where he felt like he was in charge (and then when Roman found out the truth, everything went to hell -- but Deniz didn't seem to 'choose' Vanessa until Roman revealed that he'd been lying about his leg not getting better because he was afraid of losing Deniz's affection. Which was a valid, if telling in the bad way, concern, as Deniz's relationship with Vanessa started when he was comforting her over something, and he wasn't really willing to go there with Roman, either, until Roman got gay-bashed by Deniz's ice-hockey teammates).

And Vanessa makes sense, too, sadly, because I've seen women do this, refuse to believe that the person they cheated with will cheat on them, too. She's a young girl who fell in love with a gay boy and then thought she'd turned him back with her affections. She also shows signs of being very insecure and possessive. And the idea that Deniz is still attracted to Roman would upset her even more than him just fucking around on her in general, because it makes his relationship with her feel cheap, like she really is still the Other Woman.

It's entirely possible that I've given this far too much thought. I will end this bit by saying Deniz and Roman kissing is really, really hot.

That threesome would likely be much healthier than Roman's relationship with Deniz.

Man, I love that you do! I try not to think too hard about soap operas because it can cause all kinds of headaches, but I think a little thought here is useful.

I just want all three of them - Deniz, Vanessa and Roman - to, I guess, grow up a little, or at least be able to see things in perspective. That none of their relationships were particularly healthy and a lot of their problems are down to insecurities. They're all pretty awesome, or were, at one time or another... Someone needs to give them a pep talk. Probably Ingo.

It is, but I can't help but think that Roman must get a terrible neckache from looking up all the time.
