So, something's mucking about with the multiverse.

In "Doomsday", when Rose asks whether or not he can "come through properly," the Doctor says, "The whole thing would fracture. Two universes would collapse."

Presumably, the rules haven't changed. And Rose knows that, too. She wouldn't mess about with it. That's the thing that meant they couldn't see each other again -- both of them care about the universe too much. But if someone else is screwing around with the universes, then it starts fracturing on its own. The best person to stop it would be the Doctor. Bad Wolf was a message last time -- "you can save him". Here, it's still a message -- "we're all in danger". Because the Doctor knows Rose. Knows her well enough to know that she would never risk collapsing two universes unless there was no other choice. And that means that whatever's coming is a huge deal. Because he knows Rose. It must be the end of the universe because she wouldn't do this for anything else.

I loved the dominos affect of not having Donna around. No Donna means no one to stop the Doctor from letting himself drown (the state of him in "The Runaway Bride" was so distressing. I wonder who it was that got dosed. If she just "couldn't take it" as Donna mentioned in "Partners in Crime").

No Doctor means that Sarah Jane ends up investigating the hospital (she must have known that he was dead -- UNIT found the body and held the TARDIS and she still has contacts there) and dies (along with the children) to stop the MRI. But it took longer -- it must've. And Martha Jones gave that one student the last bit of air, so he was the only survivor.

On the plus side, without the Doctor around there wasn't anyone to free the Master from being the Professor and he died at the end of the universe. Small blessing, considering everything else.

The Doctor wasn't aboard the Titanic replica, so it landed on London. Many died outright; millions more were displaced.

Because Britain was a... less pleasing prospect that it had been before, Mrs. Foster went to America and we find out why it was a good idea for the Doctor to stop her -- sixty million people died to create the Adipose children.

And Martha and the Doctor and Sarah Jane are all dead at this point -- so, UNIT contacted Jack to help with the ATMOS problem. His team died to save the world from the Sontarans and I believe Rose said Jack is on the Sontaran homeworld. Probably not the most fun place for him to be.

The world dissolves. Doesn't need the Master to have that happen -- we were reminded of that in "Midnight". Simple, ordinary human fear causes the most horrific things to happen.

I wonder when Rose first contacted UNIT -- straight away or later on. They have a history of hooking up with mysterious people who refuse to give out a name, so I don't have a problem with that part (and, as someone pointed out, she can't go around calling herself "Rose Tyler" because Rose Tyler died at the Battle of Canary Wharf).

Everything in this episode made sense.

And I need to point out his face when Donna said 'Bad Wolf'. Hope, pain, fear, shock. His eyes, his lips trembling. Oh, Doctor. That's a great lead in to what we saw in the trailer the 'no matter what's happening, isn't that good' and 'yeah' with the glowing grin.

Yeah. I really loved that. It all followed naturally from the premise.

His reaction was so great! I'm really looking forward to seeing just where that scene falls in the episode (*hopes for right away*) and what else we get and if we have REUNION! in a suitably 'yay!' fashion.

How can you be this coherent? I’m in awe.

It must be the end of the universe because she wouldn’t do this for anything else.

*nods* When we got the news that Rose was coming back, one of my first thoughts was that there must be something she needed to do in our world. I couldn’t see her risking the multiverse just because she missed the Doctor. If all she was risking was her own life, sure. But they made it very clear in “Doomsday” that there was more at stake. (Of course, we just found out what her absence would’ve cost if Donna hadn’t stepped in.)

Sixty million people died to create the Adipose children.

Actually, it might’ve been a lot more than sixty million. I’m not sure—it all happened so fast. But they said sixty million in America, right? And didn’t they also say that ships were appearing all over the world? I think what happened is that, with no one to stop her, Ms. Foster took Adipose Industries worldwide.

I loved the dominos affect of not having Donna around.

Oh, me too. But do you know the best part? (Well, there are so many best parts. But this one’s still pretty fantastic.) All those people who died saving the world—Martha and Sarah Jane and Jack and Gwen and Ianto—they’re all going to be in next week’s episode.

Yep. Though I believe that Rose probably was searching for a way to come across without fracturing the whole thing, she wouldn't risk anyone but herself for the sake of just her own happiness (*hugs Rose and her heroic nature*).

Yeah, that is such a wonderful and terrific part. Yay! They get to save the world and not die in the process!

And yet, RTD admits in the Confidential that she would never have stopped looking for a way back. And I love that about her. I love how stubborn she can be. (Plus, all that research probably came in handy when the stars started going out and she decided it was worth the risk.) Here’s the quote:

Of course, Rose would always want to find the Doctor again, and would spend her life in that parallel world trying to find the Doctor again, but there’s something more going on.

OMG ROSE.

Is it the twenty-eighth yet?

All I could think about during that scene is, "Alonzo!!! Noooooo!!"

Somehow, whenever I begin to think of the sheer SCOPE of this episode, my brain just breaks into little pieces and I feel like I want to cry.

This is possibly my favorite aspect of this episode. The most ordinary thing/event/person can create the most extraordinary waves.

Also. RTD made the possibility of linking S1 to S4 actually work. Admittedly, I had a few doubts when I first heard about it, but this episode totally tied everything together for me. The idea of Rose returning, Bad Wolf, even Donna's importance from the very beginning of her appearance.

Random: I loved Rose so, so much in this episode.

Thank you! I did wonder about those things and what you wrote makes sense. I thought that is was Rose who got Torchwood and the SJ gang to save the world on different occasions.
