[livejournal.com profile] jic and I were talking about crossovers and I expressed a desire to see a real crossover between Doctor Who and Blackpool.

Which is to say... including the random singing along to the soundtrack. What I really want is a story where the universe that Rose went to in "Doomsday" is the Blackpool universe, and one of the things that Jackie and Mickey need to tell her about her new universe is that... sometimes... people just burst into (very familiar) song. And coordinated dance. Music just comes from the air and no one thinks it's odd. In fact, sometimes they sing things in front of each other and don't remember that the other person was just expressing something to them (Mickey realized what was happening when Jake broke out into a love ballad (something appropriate to their situation... with all the songs in the world, there's got to be something) and was shocked when Mickey actually asked him about it).

"It's like we're trapped in a Buffy episode," he could say to her.

For some odd reason, that whole idea sounds very familiar to me. I wonder why that is... ;-)

Hee. It took me ages to actually post about it, yeah. I was hoping the longing would go away!

Hee!!! Oh, how I'd adore this. Not to mention the big huge dramatic musical number when Ten finds a way to the alt!verse to get Rose. :-)

Oh, yes. The hilarity, the drama! The song-steal-age!

Heh, a couple weeks ago we were discussing basically the same thing in OSK chat, and then I remembered that I seem to have lost my filk abilities so my plans to write "Once More, With Reunion" have sort of fizzled. (I mean, "Going Through the Motions" hardly needs to be rewritten to be the Doctor's song.)

But doing it with other songs and without filking could work too.

This is so true!

I don't know whether I'm relieved or worried that this cracktastic idea has been discussed by other people.

Blackpool is the craziest, most brilliant show ever made. David sings "These Boots are Made for Walking". It's beautiful.
