Fall Shows Status: Monday (Heroes)

I've not yet watched the two new Prison Break episodes (I had my roommate vet them for signs of the crack that had infested S2), but I'm planning on trying to watch them on Thursday. Now, Heroes, I did watch.

I successfully finished watching the first season before the second season started, which I'm thrilled about, so before I talk about the new episode, I am going to sum up how I feel about S1, by character.

Hiro/Ando -- OMG! So cute. Yeah, that's about what I've got there. They are absolutely adorable and I got all misty when Future!Peter told Ando that Future!Hiro became the way he is when he lost Ando. Aw. Cuddly hero boys! Love them! And Hiro had a successful short-term major love interest. I found Charlie and Hiro very sweet and believable.

Nikki/Jessica/D.L./Micah -- the only part of their plot that I find at all intriguing/appealing/good is Micah, who is a fantastic and observant child. I *heart* Micah. I hate that our introduction to Nikki was her taking off her clothes (and D.L.'s intro was a bit WTF, as well). They just... had some of the weakest plotlines, I think. The actors are both good, but there was only so much they could do.

Syler/Mohinder -- Intriguing and suspenseful, for the most part. Mohinder's very bad science in the first episode still makes me cringe, though.

Matt and Janice Parkman -- I think Matt's fairly cute/sweet and liked Janice most of the time.

Petrellis! -- I love Peter, basically in his interactions with everyone, ever -- loved him with Claire, loved him with Claude, loved him with Simone (*is sad*) and Isaac (*still sad*). I spent most of first season despising Nathan. He may have redeemed himself in the last couple of episodes. We'll see. The mom, though, just creeps me out. She gets no love, ever.

Bennets! -- I adore Claire, and came to love Mr. and Mrs. Bennet as well. Lyle is kinda boring, though.

Some of the 'OMG! We are all connected!' stuff worked for me, and some of it just felt like a little too much. On balance, I enjoyed the show.

Four Months Later

Dude! They killed Sulu. That is so not on. I'm hoping that he has some power that will let him survive that fall, because... dude, Hiro will be so sad if he comes back from seventeeth century Japan to find out that his father died while he was gone. Clearly, Ando must find the (attempted) murderer.

I'm unsure how I feel about Hiro's plotline. I'm tending toward the notion that he's going to need to be his own Kensei, though they might go to the 'Hiro inspires Kensei to be a hero' plotline. I'm hoping that they've got a third option that they've worked up, though.

Nathan really is a wreck because of what happened with Peter. I may, possibly, allow myself to like him as a character. As long as, when we eventually get Peter back to New York, Nathan doesn't revert back into being an asshole to him.

Poor Claire and Noah Bennet -- trying so hard to be 'normal' and being so bad at it. *pets them* I'm not sure how I feel about Claire's Stalker!Boy, except to say that she seems to mostly attract Petrellis (he's got to be another Nathan off-shoot, right? I mean, he flies and we haven't seen a repeat of a power before as I recall.), which isn't very good for her social life.

"Oh, wow, I met the hottest guy. He saved my life. He's my hero. He's... my uncle? ... Well, fine, I can move on. Oh, hey, there's a cute boy. Seems a bit aggressive, but not too bad. He's even kinda... half-brother? He's my half-brother? ... the universe hates me."

The Maya & Alejandro storyline looks to be very intriguing. Bit of a Simon&River vibe coming off of them. Both rather adorable. I like that Heroes is, indeed, proving to be more global.

Molly's family -- the notion of Matt and Mohinder setting up house together is so intensely adorable (despite a slight sadness at hearing that Matt and Janice didn't work out). And Matt is so sweet with Molly. It's just all so cute. And I love Mohinder being all clever and working with Mr. Bennet. Yay! He learns from his mistakes.

Peter's still hot.

I was impressed with the premiere. Yay. I do differ in that I found Peter occasionally tiresome and I loved DL.

They can't really have killed George Takei ... can they? I mean, did anyone tell them he's freaking Sulu???

I liked D.L., but wasn't thrilled with his plots (if that makes sense), whereas, I liked both Peter and the plots he was in. I'm sad that we haven't had any D.L. yet this year -- we don't even know if he's dead or not, do we?

Oh yes -- I agree that the character was better than the actual plot he was involved with. Peter? I'm slightly ambivalent. He's just so emo that it is a little frustrating for me. I still want him around, but I need his character to be more well-rounded somehow. I'm intrigued by where they're going with him this season.

In addition to your excellent observations, I have two thoughts:

First, I wonder if the not-Company-organization and the Company are actually secretly run by the same person/people.

Second, Mr. Grunberg is looking in real fighting trim this season. Divorcing Ms. Thang seems to suit Matt, and Weight Watchers seems to suit Greggers.

I mean that The Company, Noah's former employers, and Not-the-Company (Midas' group) are run by the same folks. Unless I missed something, there's no reason Mohinder would be going to work with/for The Company twice, so I was under the impression Midas isn't with TC.

Ah! I thought they were...well, different guys, same structure and still people who think Mohinder is naive and easily led. (Midas. I like that nickname better than his name Bob.)

I don't think a repeat of power shows a blood relation, necessarily. At least not one that's of any importance after generations of passing down the mutating genes. It could be, but in that case I'll be sorely disappointed. I love Claire's dad though. Mr. Bennet is the second best character on the show (Hiro being the best, of course, but pfft that's such a cliche, everybody loves him).

I'm way more interested in this mysterious man that can see Molly, whom she also mentioned in season one. Also, is he gonna kill her? 'Cause she's getting annoying.

I don't think a repeat of power shows a blood relation, necessarily.

Possibly not, but it was our first instance on-screen of a repeating power (I think) and flying is so strongly associated with the Petrellis that it just seems like a bad idea to have Claire's stalker given that ability.

An ljfriend says that the swordmaker's daughter could be Kensei! THAT would rock (but is unlikely, alas).

Hmm. I would have liked that sort of resolution a lot. I'm so with you on being thrilled with the Mohinder and Claire plots -- I love their characters.
