So, I watched Underworld the last week (the first half on the weekend and the second just before this weekend), partly so that I would be prepared to watch the sequel with my roommate this weekend. Good move, as the second movie takes right off from when the first one ends.

First off, the second one is definitely bloodier than the first, but it's also very much in the same emotional vein. If the romance and violence of the first one put you off, you probably won't like the second one, but if, like me, that's the part you found interesting, you should enjoy it.

Important things: Michael and Selene are really, really hot. Also, Selene is incredibly competent, like woah. I like the differences in their techniques, especially since they feel very in character. I love that they take turns rescuing each other. I just really enjoyed their relationship throughout both films. It was sweet without ever being too sweet, and it was just really equal and felt strong and believable.

All the interesting character plotty stuff, I also liked. The family/blood angle that was so important in the first movie was just as important here, but shifted in interesting ways. I liked the Corvinus family -- that Marcus did show genuine concern for his brother and a moment of regret for killing his father. Yeah, blood-thirsty killer, but he did care about his family.

So, if you like interesting characters and relationships (with a supernatural twist), and don't mind (quite a lot of) blood, I'd recommend giving the movies a try (if you just wanted to see the second one, they do give a kind recap of the first movie at the front of it).

I saw it as well this weekend. It wasn't nearly as bad as I feared it would be. As my brother said, this is what a movie about vampires and werewolfs should look like. With people getting their faces ripped off and such. Heh.

Hee, yes, I will never forget the image of werewolves getting their lower jaws ripped off. It stays with you, for some reason.

But yes, it was exciting and had hot people and it felt suitably gothic and violent. This is really all I need from a supernatural thriller.

I'm avoiding your specific commentary, but I'm glad to hear you thought the sequel was good as the first. I'll def. have to get into a theatre this week and check it out.

It's definitely bloodier than the first one, but I liked the two movies about equally (and there was the odd thrill of seeing Scott Speedman on the big screen, as I'd liked him back on Felicity).
