Movie: Underworld Evolution
Jan. 23rd, 2006 12:01 amSo, I watched Underworld the last week (the first half on the weekend and the second just before this weekend), partly so that I would be prepared to watch the sequel with my roommate this weekend. Good move, as the second movie takes right off from when the first one ends.
First off, the second one is definitely bloodier than the first, but it's also very much in the same emotional vein. If the romance and violence of the first one put you off, you probably won't like the second one, but if, like me, that's the part you found interesting, you should enjoy it.
Important things: Michael and Selene are really, really hot. Also, Selene is incredibly competent, like woah. I like the differences in their techniques, especially since they feel very in character. I love that they take turns rescuing each other. I just really enjoyed their relationship throughout both films. It was sweet without ever being too sweet, and it was just really equal and felt strong and believable.
All the interesting character plotty stuff, I also liked. The family/blood angle that was so important in the first movie was just as important here, but shifted in interesting ways. I liked the Corvinus family -- that Marcus did show genuine concern for his brother and a moment of regret for killing his father. Yeah, blood-thirsty killer, but he did care about his family.
So, if you like interesting characters and relationships (with a supernatural twist), and don't mind (quite a lot of) blood, I'd recommend giving the movies a try (if you just wanted to see the second one, they do give a kind recap of the first movie at the front of it).
