What is with all the recent hate towards *NSYNC?

I got this from Em:
N Sync
March 20
BY CHRIS RYALL

Details: March 20
Where: Reunion Arena

Look, it's like this: I don't really begrudge these kids their fame, their money, their glory or their Britney. However, it's completely disturbing to me to turn on MTV (I could actually end this sentence right there) and see 'N Sync centerpiece Justin Timberlake playing Elton John in a video. And I don't mean current, bloated-with-success and hair-replacement-system Elton John; I mean he's playing Elton from back in the Caribou days, when he and his music were relevant. Something about this strikes me as so wrong, on a few different levels. However, I guess when you need someone to lip-synch your song, you go to a real pro.

'Centerpiece'? Great. Now Timberlake's a cake topper. And then he doesn't bother going on to explain why it's strikes him as wrong, choosing instead to slander Justin. Has he ever seen Justin perform? If he had, he would know that calling him a lip-syncher is a lie. And insulting without researching does seem to be the act of someone who is begrudging 'these kids their fame'.
See, part of it is that I just don't get 'N Sync. (And why should I?) They followed the Backstreet Boys, and by all rights, should have signaled to everyone that these contrived pop bands were on the way out, and helped kill the whole scene so we could return to Real Music. Instead, the opposite happened--they blew up. Sales of glow sticks and glitter blew up. And the phenomenon has persisted.

You don't get them so much that you can't spell their name right. How would you feel if I went around writing about(and insulting) 'the Beetles'. And why should you try to 'get *NSYNC'? Because they're my generation's Elvis/Beatles/Insert Band Here. They matter to a hell of a lot of people.
And why does being first matter? There's always someone who comes first. In this case, it wasn't even BSB. It was New Kids on the Block, really. Unless someone can think of an earlier example of a singing/dancing group of five guys.
Also, notice the slam to pop music. It's not 'Real Music'. Hmm. People have said that about rock and roll. About blues and jazz way back when.
And he doesn't even try to think of why *NSYNC's hit the top and stayed there.
Now, I get the feeling the band is laughing at the public. (And why shouldn't they?) They were saddled with a horrible, cheesy name and have released albums with titles like No Strings Attached and now Celebrity, which, of course, bemoans celebrity. It's one long joke with no punch line in sight. Not to mention the fact they appear onstage in outfits and doing dance moves that would embarrass Captain EO. Yet people are still eating this up.

Oh, I bet they're laughing at you. At the people who slander them and said that they'd never amount to anything. Why shouldn't they? They've proved you wrong.
And he obviously hasn't read anything about the Celebrity tour when he makes the last two statements. Assholes piss me off, but assholes who haven't done their research piss me off a lot more.
I suppose there's worse things to let your young daughters do on a Wednesday night, but me, if I were in that spot, I'd be pushing my kids to listen to blink-182 or Lit. At least they have a (rounded) edge to their music, as opposed to the amorphous pablum these fellas are hawking.

And there we have an attempt at intellectualism. Just say that you think *NSYNC is meaninglessly trite. Don't dress it up in fancy words.

And he obviously hasn't listened to any of *NSYNC's lyrics if he thinks that they aren't saying anything with edge.

Maybe I'm just hopelessly sheltered, but I'd say that 'Digital Getdown', 'Up Against the Wall', and 'Pop' all have edge. 'Gone' has some gorgeous emotional depth. 'The Game is Over' has edge. A lot of what they say in Celebrity(the CD) has an element of 'Fuck what other people think. Do what you love.' Which I consider edgier than a lot that's thrown out to us in the form of rock and rap.

The thing is in private he probably jerks off to Nsync videos and half naked pictures of Nsync's "centerpiece".

It goes to show that so-called 'reviewers' and/or 'critics' tend to stereotype by what they think they know. They think they know how we think, what we like or how we act, but they are so wrong. Critics said the Beatles wouldn't last when they came out and now they're musical legends. NSYNC are the Beatles of our generation, whether some people like it or not. Deal with it. And now I feel bad for writing up my somewhat scathing entry about Girlfriend. (http://www.livejournal.com/talkpost.bml?journal=jadestar16&itemid=22402)

Hee. Don't worry about that. That's not the kind of thing that bothers me. It's about your taste in music. My mom doesn't care for Justin's voice, which puzzles me but doesn't make me mad or upset.

It's impying that your taste is really The Truth that bugs me.

I feel a little better about my entry but it still reflects about what I think about Girlfriend. My current taste is mostly rock with dashes of pop thrown in but I don't force it on my friends. They may make fun of me for liking NSYNC, but they still respect me for I choose to like. These 'critics' and/or 'reviewers' think that NSYNC aren't talented, then they obviously haven't experienced what these guys go through just to entertain us. Yeah, they're flashy and slashy. So what? They drive the hard forces of reality away from me for a few moments. And I've had dreams where NSYNC weren't putting on a flashy show and dancing, just singing and playing instruments and everyone is having a good time, swaying to the music and not screaming for the guys. Imagine that. :)

They might eventually do that. They are capable of it.
