Wonderful, as always. And painful, at the same time. I really miss her. I miss who he was when he was with her. Still, thank you for this.

Thank you.

And, yes. It isn't just Rose herself that I miss (though I miss her so much). I miss the way that he looked at her, the way he was aware of her and who he was with her.

Thanks. I'm glad that you liked it. I wasn't planning on making this vid unless I still missed Rose as much at the end of S3 as I do now, but I reached a critical mass of missing her and couldn't help myself.

I watched this! *proud* I made it part of my therapy program for coming to terms with the fact that DW is All About Rose (still). ;-) And I liked it a LOT. For as you know, I was not averse to Rose, especially Ten/Rose, and you made me feel the love again. I thought the way you showed the parallel moments of Doctor/Rose and Doctor/Martha was really beautiful and poignant.

You rock!

Just don't kill me when I make a Martha vid one day. :-p

Hee! Thanks for watching. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it. My Rose/Doctor love is very, very strong and I miss her as much as this vid implies all the time.

Just don't kill me when I make a Martha vid one day. :-p

Ha! I may make one myself, someday. All depends on whether or not she ends up pinging me in the right places. She hasn't, so far, though a friend of mine is helping me understand her (she's someone who clicked with her after seeing the family dynamics in the first phone calls and can explain to me why Martha kept flirting even after the Doctor told her the kiss meant 'nothing' -- very illuminating, as Martha's behavior made no sense to me at all at the time).

She's totally pinging me in the right places though I don't claim to feel any great insight into her character yet. The flirting with the Doctor is actually getting in the way for me, so I'm very intrigued by your friend's explanation--care to share it? Martha's family dynamic did really hook me in as interesting and made me sympathetic towards her, but as an only child I feel unqualified to discuss how that has shaped her character.

Basically, that some families communicate using indirect methods (such as telling each member of the family something different and having everyone work everything out without actually explaining it to anyone). And that Martha's family pinged her as one (which she knows from being in one) and therefore, Martha would naturally assume that the Doctor was lying he told her that the kiss he was about to give her meant nothing. Because that's what people do. That's what her family has taught her to expect.

It's... an utterly baffling point of view to me, but one that both makes perfect sense from my friend's point of view and also one that tracks with Martha's behavior.

Also, my annoyance at the flirting dies down a bit when I remind myself that Martha actually has every reason to believe that Rose chose to leave the Doctor. "She's with her family. Happy." From Martha's POV, Rose appears nearly exactly the opposite of who Rose actually is. And the Doctor appears to be clinging to someone who didn't want him all that much.

Yes, that explanation of Martha's family dynamic does help explain why she ignores the Doctor's assertions that the kiss means nothing. It also ties with her digging a bit further into the Doctor's history too--she is used to reading people who hide the truth. This makes me wonder whether she might uncover the truth about Rose too in time. And you're right--from Martha's pov, the Doctor's clinging to someone who's happy. And since she is in the first flush of excitement about travelling with him, it's probably baffling to her to think of someone giving it up and that would make her even more confused as to why the Doctor would hang on to that person. Yup. On balanced reflection, I'd place money on Martha uncovering the truth about Rose some time soon.

It really was an extremely helpful conversation for me. Martha made so little sense to me before and now makes... some sense (my own family is much more in the Tyler mold -- if we're pissed at you, we will just tell you (and if we don't, then that means that we aren't allowed to act mad at you). Yelling and loyalty, all mixed-up. Parents expecting one thing and children growing up to be completely different. Rose's family, small as it is, felt so much more familiar to me.).

This makes me wonder whether she might uncover the truth about Rose too in time.

I'm really hoping so. Because right now she's proceeding off of false assumptions.

And you're right--from Martha's pov, the Doctor's clinging to someone who's happy. Indeed! When I think about how much the Doctor isn't saying (because he's trying to play the same game about Rose that he did about Gallifrey -- she's happy (mustn't remember how she was weeping on the beach), with her family (mustn't think about how many times she choose me over them), and safe (mustn't think about how I taught her to leap into danger, regardless of the consequences), Martha becomes so much clearer to me. She has no way of knowing, because she wasn't there in the first flush of loss, the way that Donna was.

I do hope that she finds out soon.

Martha's family is closer to my own, though mine is very small compared to hers.

She has no way of knowing, because she wasn't there in the first flush of loss, the way that Donna was.
Yeah, in a way Donna insulated Martha from the truth by being there in that first flush of loss.

I just found this video (you friended me, I clicked over to read, I learned we think a lot alike, I will be friending you back; yay, more 10/Rose friends! *G*) and I really loved it. I'm a huge music vid fan -- I will watch vids for shows I've never even seen if they are well done, LOL -- and you have a lot of talent. Your cuts are smooth, your colors vibrant, your stories well told ... very enjoyable! :)

I also had to quote this, from an earlier response of yours on this thread ...

Ohhhh, I like this insight. It was pretty clear from the beginning that this is what he was doing (say she's happy; don't think about her sobbing the last time we saw each other), but I like your point about how it makes Martha more sympathetic. Clearly she knows he's recently had his heart broken, but she doesn't yet know the circumstances of how Rose left. And looking at things from Martha's "all this is brand new and exciting" POV, you can see how she'd assume that Rose is an idiot for giving all that up and thus not worthy of his moping. *g*

Thank you so much! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the vid. I really adore the Doctor and Rose so much and I miss her so much this season.

It really does help me with the not wanting to smack Martha (which I kinda wanted to do when she got jealous over being taken to the same place as Rose in Gridlock -- I was all, "You have known him for two days!"). She makes sense, when I consider everything that the Doctor hasn't told her.

Don't think I'm stalking you lol. I just found your vids yesterday and now I'm commenting.

As always, you did a brilliant job. I just recently finished watching S2 (I'm a new fan) but watching your vid, I don't think I'll be able to watch S3. I knew I wouldn't stomach it but just seeing her, there's just no way.

I have a little question about S3 though, if you don't mind. Is the Doctor really moving on with Martha? Is she showed as just another companion or more?

Anyway, thanks for the wonderful vids :)

I don't mind at all! It's rather lovely to get a whole set of comments at once.

It's easier than I was expecting it to be. I still miss Rose in every episode, but the Doctor misses her, too, and that helps.

He's actually failing to move on in a rather spectacular way. Martha really feels so much more like an old school companion -- he admires her smarts and guts, but doesn't some the same kind of awareness of her that was always so clear with Rose.

Anyway, thanks for the wonderful vids :)

Thanks for the sweet words. I'm so glad you've enjoyed the vids.

What I'm scared of is him eventually getting close to Martha. I could watch the show if I knew beforehand that she was just another companion. I guess I want Rose to remain special, in the show's memory and especially in his heart, you know? I'm afraid the show might make him move on and eventually get close to someone again as he was to Rose. I couldn't buy that. And I know he *has* to move on, he doesn't have any other choice, but not like that, with someone who's not Rose. I'm pathetic, aren't I? lol

Anyway, thanks for answering my question :)
