I'm listening to the Beatles and unfavorably comparing them to my guys. I mean, it's hardly their fault that they didn't have the fullness of sound that *nsync does.

edit: How perfect is it that Cordy is the bitch icon? Very.

another edit: Are these the most repetitive lyrics ever or does it only feel that way?

Agreed. But I usually like covers better than the originals, especially when it comes to old songs

Probably has something to do with generation gaps and such. Hmm. And in general, I pretty much love all of *nsync's stuff.

Um, there is no basis for comparison between The Beatles and *NSync. The Beatles were in the sixties, thus the quality of the recordings was quite, well, shit compared to the beautiful things we can do now. However, on the whole, The Beatles produced some of the finest music this world will ever know, and the best thing about it is that it will last forever, because people are constantly recreating their music for the present day.

Whether *NSync can have that longevity...

*trails off*...What was my point again? Oh yeah. No point in comparing the two bands, because it just don't work no matter what way you look at it.

It all really depends on your opinion.

For me, I love the Beatles and Nsync equally as much because for me, I think that the Beatles set some of the standards for most bands today because they made some of the quirkiest music the world has ever heard. ("Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds", "I Am The Walrus", "Yesterday" [which was supposed to be called "Scrambled Eggs"<--Beatles trivia], "Yellow Submarine", etc...)

I mean, it's the Beatles, one of the most influential bands in music. I think every singer or band in music today have taken some kind cue from the Beatles' music, whether they are rock, pop, rap, R&B, punk, metal, etc...

They didn't have the technology we have today back in the Sixties and Seventies, therefore the quality of the recordings is not what we expect of today.

I mean, yeah, they didn't harmonize like Nsync does, but did you really expect four guys from England to harmonize as good as some of the popular vocal groups of the Sixties?

Which one?

John Lennon or Paul McCartney?

They both sang lead so I never could tell those two apart, but I could guess you were referring to Paul McCartney.

Yeah, I'm not really a big fan of Sir Paul, depsite the fact he wrote some great songs.

I like Ringo.

He sang "Yellow Submarine", which is one of my absoulte FAVORITE songs ever.

Oh, spare me. As if you Draco Malfoy fetish hadn't proved you were insane, this would. Nsync is not untalented, but compared to the Beatles, they suck ass. Really. The Beatles are better musicians, better singers, their material is infinitely better -- really, there's no category in which Nsync is not inferior to the Beatles.

Also, I disagree that they're better singers. The lead guy's voice totally grates on me. Of course, I've never heard them a capella, so I don't know how they sound that way, but my guys can sound like angels.

See, this just proves you don't know what you're talking about. The Beatles *had* no "lead guy."

As for Nsync, they're the cream of the crop when it comes to modern-era pre-fab bubblegum pop, and probably the only such band to have a chance at having some lasting impact. When they happen to stumble upon some decent material, they're quite good. That probably explains why you like the Beatles covers they do; they're singing good songs for a change.

The guy that sings the lead on most of the songs? What's his name? McCartney? What else would you call him? Guy who sings lead sometimes?

wading in for my soggy two cents...

From: [identity profile] crushw-eyeliner.livejournal.com
The Beatles were/are interesting in that they had two lead singers/songwriters who wrote the majority of the band's songs, but the band collectively were responsible for the overall music(especially as time went by) and George Harrison (lead guitar) and Ringo Starr (drummer) began composing and offering more musical input. But as for who sings what, John Lennon and Paul McCartney switched off lead vocal duties -- it usually depended on how much of a song one wrote. One musician would contribute a verse or tweak the other's chorus, etc. etc. George Harrison would sing all his own songs, and Ringo would usually be given a song by the others to sing.

Giu would probably refine this better for you, but I've misplaced my Revolution in the Head, and ummm..yes. Rather devout Beatles girl here, myself.

As for "I wanna hold your hand", it was one of their very first songs, and they were emulating skiffle and early rock and roll (Bill Haley and the Comets, Buddy Holly). Pretty simplistic stuff, but it had a damn catchy beat...I like "I saw her standing there", but I'm an unapologetic mush when it comes to early Beatles stuff...I adore Revolver/Rubber Soul/Sgt. Peppers', et al, but the early stuff.....

*sigh*.

Yes. I'm a geek.

here endeth the shoddy history lesson.

Hee. It's very helpful.

But yeah, the guy who sings lead on I Wanna Hold Your Hand would be the person whose voice annoys me. I realize how subjective this is, as my mom utterly hates Justin's voice.

That'll be John Lennon on lead vocals for that particular song, with Paul McCartney harmonizing. Incidentally, John Lennon sings lead (and wrote) Across the Universe...are you sure you heard the Beatles version or the Rufus Wainwright version?

I don't know about the version thing. It doesn't sound like the same guy, so that could be it.

Possibly I just like his writing, then. Which isn't bad. Good song writers can be hard to find.

All four of the Beatles wrote songs, and each member (usually) sang lead on the songs he wrote. Lennon and McCartney were always listed as co-writers, and some of their songs were genuine collaborations ("A Day In the Life," for example, on which they each sang about half, and "A Little Help From My Friends," which was written for Ringo to sing) but generally speaking one or the other was the primary writer. For example, McCartney wrote and sang lead on "When I'm Sixty-Four," and John wrote and sang lead on "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonnds."
