butterfly: (Dean -- Supernatural)

I really enjoyed the episode. The guy (Javier?) was incredibly cute and adorable and I just loved Clark's interactions with him (Jimmy was... not so good -- actually, Chloe kinda failed on the job, too. What was up with that, Ms. Sullivan?). And, again, we see why Clark needs to get working on that costume thing, because when given the choice between saving someone and risking his secret or saving his secret and risking the person, he'll always choose to risk his secret. Because he is a hero.

Lex is... definitely over the line, now. I think he probably crossed it in back in Reunion, when he got Duncan's test results from Lionel. He's made his choices and he's living with them. The choice now, is whether or not Lana will. She's at the moment of decision. And she's just mentioned how attractive she's finding money and power.

As for Croatoan, I... am not entirely sure that I can breathe after the love that was this episode. Dean and Sam, man. I can't even...

*makes flail-y hand motions*

Just... I adore Dean for staying with Sam. For being willing to do that, no hesitation. That's Simon & River level love, standing up the pyre to die with that person who matters more to you than anything else in the universe because you aren't willing to let them die alone.

And I love Sam, for trying to get Dean to change his mind and for wanting to share Dean's burdens. This show is totally cutting out the analytical parts of my brain and filling them with pure joy.

I just... I adore the Brothers Winchester.

Sorry -- the 'anonymous' comment was me forgetting to log in. But Clark is still an asshole.

Ah, I'll just move your quote over here, then.

Excuse me? Clark leaving Lex behind to get grabbed up by Lionel's people in "Shattered"? Especially when Lex was in ACTUAL danger, while the kid in "Subterranean" was only faced with an unwanted trip back to Mexico? Clark is NOT a hero -- he's a asshole who is inexplicably willing to trust virtual strangers, while abandoning his so-called 'best friend' to the wolves. *snarls in disgust*

The end of Shattered did feature Clark freaking out completely about Lex knowing the truth about him and rabbiting. And then in Asylum, he tries to get Lex out. I think ignoring all the rest of Shattered and then Asylum, when Clark tries to hard to help Lex (despite the negative words of his parents who urge him to leave Lex to rot and protect his secret instead) is ignoring a lot.

Clark does not exist in one moment of panic. It's something to be taken into account when considering him, but I can forgive Clark for being unable to handle his nightmares coming true right in front of him. Lex even uses the same words that dream!Lex used in Slumber -- "You're not even human." It's one of Clark's greatest fears at that point in his life, which we know because we got to see inside Clark's head earlier in the season.

I feel horrible for Lex in the Shattered/Asylum arc, but I hurt for Clark, too. Especially when he's faced with an amnesiac Lex at the end. If I was going to condemn Clark for any choice, I'd condemn him for not telling Lex the truth about what happened in the asylum and his dad stealing his memory. But, again, that's the fear driving him, fear that's been carefully taught to him by his parents. As Lex should know, it's hard to shake the things that our parents have taught.

Clark's been able to do a lot more growth since Jonathan's death than he was before, which says a lot about how Jonathan's negative voice was affecting him.

Oh, I haven't forgiven Clark for not telling Lex the truth after Lionel erased his memory in "Asylum," either. OR for betraying Lex to Lionel in "Memoria." Sure, Clark CLAIMED he was trying to 'protect' Lex, but all he really had to do to keep him from continuing with the memory treatments was to tell him the TRUTH...only that might have reminded Lex of seeing Clark's abilities, and Clark wasn't about to risk THAT, so instead he let Lionel decide how to stop Lex -- the very same Lionel who murdered his parents for money, and fried his son's brain to destroy that knowledge. In other words, Clark deliberately chose to risk Lex's sanity and Lex's life in order to protect himself. I repeat: Clark is NO hero.

I don't think that stupid choices made out of fear while someone is still a teenager prevents them from making choices that make them a hero later on. When Clark made those choices, no, he wasn't being a hero. That doesn't mean that he can't grow and become one later.
