I was just reading Sandy's new story, When I Sleep You Are Near Me.

And.

So. Men who did the thing and had kids together could have either boys or girls, because they supply both X and Y.

Women could only have girls.

No wonder we aren't hearing about experimental proceedures for f/f couples who want kids. Because they could only supply Xs.

Women only.

And you can bet guys wouldn't like that.

edit: Dude, apparently they are doing it. Way cool. I love it when the world is better than you think it is.

They've been doing it for at least two years. There's been at least one baby born from two eggs. Interesting, isn't it?

They had this show on TLC some few weeks ago, where they were all about men and women and Xs and Ys and stuff. Highly interesting. They said that every embryo is female from the beginning. They proofed it with all humans having nipples. An embryo would only turn into a male fetus when the mother produces enough testosterone during the first few weeks or months of teh pregnancy and therefor makes it male. So, they also said that because of this, the sex of the child doesn't have anything to do with the male partner, or how manly he is, or on how many Ys he has in his sperm or anything. I thought it very interesting.

They also had this girl on the show, who wanted to be a guy, because inwardly she felt like a guy. They put her on a testosterone treatment for six weeks, and as it turned out, she actually grew some facial hair, her voice got lower, her brain started to work as if it was a male brain, she got stronger. It creeped me out at first, but she actually started to look like a male, or at least more male than she looked before the treatment.
