I really enjoyed that. In the sense that it made me really sad. But, yes. nice.

This video was KILLER. From the color work, to the blurring that seemed to invoke a helpless drowning feeling, to the 'moment in time' type of clips you used to build the relationship between them. Just KILLER. I absolutely love it.

*CRIES. A LOT*

I enjoyed the vid, which has broken my heart and then perversely swept all the pieces into a tidy little pile. I'll be over here sadistically hitting "play", repeatedly.

It was kinda the vid I started when I found out that RDA wasn't coming back for S9 and I was sad and... there you go.

I don't actually watch SG-1, but [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine recced this, so I watched it. It's really, really beautiful and well-done. The song fits perfectly with the clips you've chosen, and I love how you've cut them together. Even without knowing the context, it hit me right in the chest.

Thank you. It's a particular pleasure to know that the vid speaks to people who don't watch the show. I'm glad that it was capable of standing on its own.

I too am here on the rec of [personal profile] thefourthvine, and oh, boy I'm so glad I came. This vid was lovely—an amazing story, set to absolutely gorgeous music. Even not knowing much of the SG canon, the clip selections that I did recognize were really well done and the timing was right on. Seriously, bravo—this is going to be one of the few vids I watch more than once, I can tell.

I'm so glad that it spoke to you. It isn't the vid that I was expecting to make about the Jack/Daniel relationship, but when I heard the song, I didn't have a choice. I had to make the vid.

Hi, I come here thanks to thefourthvine LJ and I have to say that his vid is amazing. The videos and the song are just perfect and it has made my heart cry, but it was a good think (i supose) because when it ended I hit the play again and again and again...

Hey - linked by [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine, and I just wanted to say, this is a fabulous vid. I don't watch SG-1, but this still worked really well for me, it tells a story in and of itself with the song, which was a fantastic choice. All those missed opportunities... it makes me hurt a little bit. Great job.

This is a bit cheeky, but after watching your vid over and over I've fallen in love with the song - I don't suppose you could put it up on yousendit for me or something, could you? I can't find it on any of my usual d/ling sources. I'd be forever grateful...

Oooo, this is lovely. Great, just shivery moments in this. Like that pushing-up-the-glasses clip that everyone uses, but here it has this amazing percussive impact.
That was one of my favorite qualities to this - the pure voice, with the singer's great phrasing, and the cuts give a wonderful sharp feel to it. It looks very good on Jack. Much as that makes it hurt. Really nice.

I'm really glad that it worked well as a Jack-pov vid. It's a version of Jack/Daniel that makes me very sad for Jack, but one that I find painfully realistic.

I downloaded this a while back, and realized I'd never left a comment -

I love this vid. The song is beautiful, and the timing is subtle but really well done. I've watched it so many times, and it never gets old. I'm not so good with the feedback, ha.

In which my love for Jack/Daniel is reborn

I’ve been meaning to leave you feedback on this vid for quite some time, but words fail me every time I watch it. Still, I am going to attempt to leave you feedback, as I believe vidders never get the feedback that they deserve.

Every time I watch this, I see something different. On one occasion, I was close to tears over the heartache of Jack/Daniel. Because THIS is Jack and Daniel, THIS is their relationship. Because Jack “can not be that someone” for Daniel... As we see Jack watching Daniel ascend, he still cannot be what Daniel wants and ouch, ouch, ouch... But that’s just the way Jack is built. The "don’t get too close" line along with your excellent choice of Jack clips -- this really nailed Jack’s character for me; mainly because Jack’s always come across to me as a tad repressed and someone who finds it difficult to open up to friends, let alone someone he loves.

Then "if everything’s the way it should be, then why am I still hungry?" Oh Jack, go to Daniel, he loves you!!!

Also the quality of the clips here? Pristine! May I ask what it is you used in terms of obtaining source and making the vid look so damn good aesthetically?

Something else I’ve really noticed about your vids is how incredibly well you capture movement, something you did remarkably well in Pavlov’s Bell too. For example in this vid - the sweeping camera shots right at the beginning. Or the way you cut together clips from completely different episodes to convey how strong Jack and Daniel’s body language towards one another is. You had a section from around 1:19 that really reinforced how they mirrored one another’s movements. Do you have a particular method when it comes to choosing the right clips or maybe you watch TV from a different viewpoint that helps you put together clips in this way? But then I realise its most likely that you have no particular method and are just a vidding genius!

All hail [livejournal.com profile] butterfly This vid is magic.

Thank you! And I'm very sorry about how long it took me to reply to this.

Every time I watch this, I see something different.

That's a lovely thing to read. I feel that way about most of my favorite shows and vids, so that's a wonderful compliment.

Yes! For me, this is my canon interpretation of Jack and Daniel. And while I wish that it were fluffy love and Jack retiring so that he can be with Daniel... it isn't. Jack went to Washington; Daniel tried to go to Atlantis. Jack loses Daniel and it hurts more than he can imagine, but he still never crosses that last line.

Then "if everything’s the way it should be, then why am I still hungry?" Oh Jack, go to Daniel, he loves you!!!

I know! The answer is to clear to us! If only it were as clear to Jack.

Also the quality of the clips here? Pristine! May I ask what it is you used in terms of obtaining source and making the vid look so damn good aesthetically?

Thank you! I do straight dvd rips with a program called dvd-decrypter -- it gives me vobs, I change them to mpegs, and then I snip out the clips that I want and make them into avis to use in Adobe Premiere Pro. I also tend to up the contrast on all the clips I use, which has a tendency to make them look sharper and more vibrant.

I love editing. I love television and movies. I love watching what directors do with what the actors are giving them. So, I'm in love with movement and with shots that use the camera well, because it's an area that I focus on while watching my shows.

Do you have a particular method when it comes to choosing the right clips or maybe you watch TV from a different viewpoint that helps you put together clips in this way? But then I realise its most likely that you have no particular method and are just a vidding genius!

Ha! I don't know if I have a particular way of watching. I do know that I tend to be thinking about what the camera's doing while I'm watching an episode -- I'll notice great or intriguing shots and cheer the director (Martin Wood is a godsend to the Stargate franchise).

All hail butterfly. This vid is magic.

Again, thank you so much for the truly wonderful comment!

Once again to reiterate all the above comments, a beautiful video done perfectly to a beautiful song.

I have a question for you. I love SG-1 but haven't seen a lot of the episodes, and I tend to be one of those people who love to see Daniel get hurt because it makes Jack angst. Which eps did you take all those hospital bed shots from? I guessed that some of them might be after Daniel's return from ascension, but I don't even know when that takes place. >.> And if you don't remember or don't have the time, please don't feel like you have to respond!

Thank you for the lovely video!

Thank you so much. I'm really glad that you enjoyed the vid.

If you haven't yet found out about the hospital shots, several of them are from the S5 episode "Meridan" (when Daniel ascends) and some of the others are from S8.

Been browsing links today and came across this - amazing stuff, well done! I don't know most of the clips (only started watching SG recently so only up to S2 SG1) but the emotion came through loud & clear... So heartbreaking!

Thanks :)
