Anyone else familiar with this Xander vid? It's by Laura Shapiro and it's very good. It's framed by the Anya/Xander relationship, and shows Xander with She-Mantis, Fake Ampata, Buffy, Willow, Cordy, and Faith before going back to Anya. Extremely well-done.
It starts off by one of the shortest compilation of A/X that you could do: the first "let's have sex" moment, him asking her to marry him (with the slap), Anya at the wedding (before the sad parts), then moves to Xander alone in his apartment.
There's a great cut there (One day I will build a fountain, drink and never grow old) with Xander raising a beer to his lips (Entropy) - cut to his dad drinking (Hell's Bells) - back to Xander. There's a great bit (find your sickness on my lips) that quickly moves through She-Mantis (seducing), Fake Ampata (about to kiss: the golden moment), Faith (actually kissing), and Buffy (that last teasing bit at the end of the sexy dance) in between the Anya stuff (with is also very good).
The second verse (I suppose that's what you'd call it, since the melody repeats, though I'm not entirely clear on the terms. There isn't a chorus between the first two verse things, but they feel like separate... thoughts?) and the first chorus are about B/X - him wanting and not getting. It starts with The Pack (one day I will work with animals), then goes to the Xander pain portion of Prophecy Girl. The chorus has the life-saving moment of PG, then Buffy hugging Puffy!Xander (I Was Made to Love You).
Then we switch to Willow/Xander first showing the start of, then the middle of their fluke, then moving to friendship stuff that concludes in Grave (You were the greatest friend of all, 'cept for when you split my lip in two) back to relationshippy stuff with Xander moving to lick off Willow's nose in the beginning of When She Was Bad. In the chorus, we get again get live-saving Xander (near end of The Pack and something else that I can't quite make out, 'cept there's a gun involved), then having their kissing being discovered by Oz and Cordy (Lover's Walk).
We get a new song-y part (bridge?) where we get the dissolution of Willow and Xander (bye-bye self respect) and some 'just friends now' stuff from Hell's Bells.
Next is the Cordy relationship (someday I will find a secret to your social chemistry) which includes stuff from Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered, The Prom and the Speedo!scene from Go Fish.
This time the chorus starts with Xander saving the world (The Zeppo, then goes to Xander/Cordy's first kiss (What's My Line).
The bridge bit starts with Faith kicking Xander out (again, The Zeppo) and then Xander bringing flowers to Cordy's hospital room.
The bridge repeats, only this time with Anya/Xander: Xander walking in the rain (Hell's Bells), Anya leaving Xander's apartment in a flounce (Entropy), then Xander telling Anya that he loves her (Into the Woods).
In the last part Xander looks in the magic shop window at Anya (Seeing Red, Xander drinks alone in his apartment, and the final shot of the vid is from near the end of Hell's Bells, when Xander and Anya's hands fall apart.
Very well done. It's nice to see all of Xander's relationships just... quickly visually described. And it always makes me want to give Xander a huge hug.

Date: 2003-02-22 06:48 pm (UTC)Incidentally, that early line where I cut from Xander drinking, to his father, then back again? The lyric is "Drink and never grow old". You can find all the lyrics here (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/barenakedladies/somefantastic.html).
So glad you liked the vid!
