Bought Buffy and Angel calendars for 2004. It's interesting to see how they arranged it. In the Angel calendar, Angel, Cordy, Wesley, Gunn, and Connor all get two months each - then there's an group shot and one for Fred. In the Buffy calendar, we have six months of Buffy, one each for Willow, Dawn, Spike, Anya, and Xander, and then the group shot.

Each group has 6 people. Each uses them in very different ways. (Additionally, in the group shots - the Angel group all stands in a line, starting with Angel and ending with Connor, with Angel closest to the camera and Connor furthest. The Buffy group shot has Buffy/Xander/Willow together, with Anya off to one side, Dawn off to the other, and Spike further back on Dawn's side. These are the standard group shots, I believe, but it's interesting all the same.)

Hmm.

[bitter]I'm surprised there weren't 8 shots of Spike, 3 of Buffy, and 1 group shot[/bitter].

I think AtS does tend to utilise its characters a lot better than BtVS. I'm not just talking about screentime - all the characters actually have something to do and a specific role to play which is unique to them. I've missed that on Buffy.

It really does feel like Angel is more of an ensemble (is that spelled right?) show than Buffy. They're willing to find out what each actor is capable of and using it (can you imagine if they'd just dismissed AD as comic relief and left him there?). Whereas, on Buffy, I felt like a lot of the actors didn't get to use their strengths.
