My mom finally has a dvd player so I took the (in)complete Firefly series over to her house so that she could see Serenity. She absolutely adored it, wants to see the rest of the series as soon as possible, and will definitely see the movie with me when it gets made.

Today? Today was a good day. I had it off, so I spent most of the day lounging around reading fanfic. Yay for the positive powers of gay porn (and all of you, of course -- thank you very much). Then I went to my mom's and a) she loves the new look of my website b) she loved Firefly and c) I'm going to go down to Klamath Falls with her on April 17th to see my brother play with the symphony. It'll be my first time seeing him play with a non-school-type group.

Plus, mom brought me presents from her recent trip to Hawaii (which I don't think I mentioned on here -- my mom went to Hawaii to visit her brother last week), which are always a good. Earrings and lip balm. Plus a 53" butterfly kite which I cannot fly at the moment (considering location and such) but that she's going to hold for me until a more convenient time.

I love Firefly. It gives me that buzz that I've only gotten on tv from Joss Whedon shows or from due South where I feel like everything means so much, and so much more than was planned for makes more sense than it ought, yet does, because this is a world complete, one that we are allowed glimpses of, but that does exist in some alternate reality.

Same feeling that I have watching the Lord of the Rings movies or reading about Middle-Earth. There are other books I could name that give me that sense of a world complete, but it's rarer than I'd like. It's glorious, like being swallowed by a fantasy. Like we're the ones living the dream and we get a chance to look at the possible realities. Shards of possibility and truth glimmer in some stories, and they glow brighter than any star in the heavens.

i've been wanting to watch firefly but at the same time i worry about my sanity in loving so many joss shows. i'm trying to curb my fandom obsessions, not expand them :)

saying that, it does seem inevitable that i will own firefly one day and see the movie (fingers crossed that it goes through).

oh joss and his tv genius.

It's such a great show. And there's actually a functional and happy relationship! On a Joss Whedon show! Married couple even!

Some hints that it wouldn't have stayed that way forever, I thought.

Aww. I get that exact same buzz from Joss and LotR. Watching Firefly always makes me feel so sad because of all the lost possibilities.

Repeat "big damn movie, big damn movie, big damn movie, big damn movie..."

Big damn movie that I will see at least a dozen times in theater (I figure the best way is to bring each person I know is interested separately, much as I did with The Return of the King).
