butterfly: (Close to one another -- Fraser (by tarar)

Taking a brief moment from my Angel-love to squee over Fraser.

God, Fraser is unutterably hot in Odds (I'm recording the fourth season for a friend at the moment -- this is, of course, a terrible hardship. I have to watch the complete coupleness of Fraser and Ray for, like, the hundredth time. I'm sure you all pity me so). He looks amazing in a suit and even better out of the jacket.

And this is, of course, fourth season Fraser, who has learnt how to be ruthless in the city (he always knew how to deal with wilderness situations, of course, but it took him quite a while to become acclimated to Chicago -- his defenses are so very high in the earlier seasons (which makes his harder moments stand out even more)).

"What game are you playing?"
"I believe it's called poker."

You just hit on my very favorite DS ep ever. I could watch Odds once a day and never get tired of it.

Fraser...moaning...in a tux...jealous Ray...on top of the skylight...Fraser seeing the reflection on the top of that table...Guuuuuuuuuuh

Lovely episode. Not a single moment in it that I don't enjoy (Dief and Ante! The cuteness!).

I love Fraser's subtle double-take when he sees Ray's reflection in the plate. And we really get to see Fraser playing the game with an openness that he doesn't normally show. The way he carefully avoids lying to Denny about his intentions, the way he reassures Ray without telling him everything and just knowing that Ray will be there for him (and I think that he was going to tell, just before the game, but then he ran out of time -- it's the look on his face before Ray goes into the room with the agents).

And Ray... after Fraser's spat of jealousy the episode before (God, was Fraser obvious in A Likely Story), now it's Ray's turn. But Fraser is aware of his jealousy in a way that Ray isn't, at this point, so it mostly comes out in trash-talk about Denny. I mean, he badmouths her at least three times over the course of the episode.

And he confirms the nature of their partnership, crashing through glass for the second time in three episodes. Breaking barriers, breaking through to where Fraser is. Could be a metaphor.
