Aw... poor Miles.

*pets Miles*

This is probably the first time when they really feature Colm's acting on the show. He shows the pain so well that torturing O'Brien becomes a yearly tradition. He does confused and lost so very well.

And I love how up Julian is on all kinds of genetic manipulation. Yeah, he knows about that stuff. Oh, and, "I'd like to meet that person myself. This virus is a work of genius." He's clearly concerned for his patients, but he's still interested in how it got done.

Quark's nose looks different in the early episodes. Does it get smaller later on? Did Quark get a nose job?

It's interesting who the last hold-outs against the virus are -- Bashir, then Sisko, and then Kira (Odo and Quark being immune). Now, Sisko is the Emissary and Bashir is genetically enhanced. Kira is just tough as all hell.

Another great episode spotlighting O'Brien.

But aw... Bashir's trying to be helpful and O'Brien just cuts him off mid-sentence.

And this is our first hint at what the Gamma Quadrant is like -- Tosk, the hunted, a sentient being created to die for its master's pleasure. The Founders' philosophy is widespread.

This is also the first time that we see O'Brien acting against what he knows would be his orders. He acts according to his conscience. He has an extremely strong inner core of self.

And both Quark and Sisko make comments about Keiko's unhappiness on the station. Ouch.

*snerk*

The beginning of this is priceless... and, in retrospect, such incredible bull. And it makes sense -- Julian's bragging about being (and he's very specific about this) salutatorian. Second. Not first, no siree. Not at all enhanced, just very very brainy. And O'Brien's sitting just behind Julian's date, listening, which makes for a fascinating shot -- Bashir, date, O'Brien. And, to be honest, I found myself charmed by Julian's story. He made an exam sound epic.

And why was O'Brien so conveniently drinking coffee all by himself near Bashir? I think this is the first time that we see O'Brien hanging out in the replimat, so, again, it's interesting. And then, wow, Bashir really leans closely toward Miles when he 'confides' that women love hearing about the Med Finals. O'Brien's pretty much rolling his eyes, then Bashir pretty much invades his personal space (you can even see Miles pull back a little to keep their shoulders from touching -it's really interesting, actually, because he looks toward Julian when he's walking around the table, then jerks his gaze away when Julian turns toward him). I really wish I knew whether Miles was there first or Bashir and his date were.

Hey, when did Kira's hair get short?

*blinks*

Bashir really is an equal-opportunity flirter. Especially at the very beginning. He wants attention -- and if people dismiss him as a flirt, then they won't think he has a secret. Hiding in plain sight.

Also, I really enjoy this episode, both because I adore Q ("... but I do know everything.") but because it was fun to see the difference in how Q treated and was treated by the DS9 crew. Shows off the differences in the shows.

These commentaries are so cool - makes me want to pull out my DVD's. :)

I think the writers were going for the contrast between Julian's over-eager puppy-ishness as he flirted with his date, to the more mature Miles, who not only rolls his eyes at Julian's BS but is also choosing to spend down time alone rather than with his wife. I think even back then, the writers were enjoying the idea that, of all the main characters, Miles and Julian are the two most different from each other. That they intended there to be a sort of tension between them, and that as the series progressed, they would become friends. It's like a microcosm of Star Trek - differences that separate people become less important and friendship can flourish.

I have to admit, I mostly enjoyed Q on TNG. He was ok on DS9, but man the suckage of the his storyline on Voyager. Then again, I met de Lancie once and he was a perfect ass, so after that my enjoyment of Q eps decreased...

Oh, I just wanted to look at that sentence all on its own and wince for poor Keiko. Of course, if her dissatisfaction with DS9 is so well-known that Sisko is making snarky comments about it... well, I can see why he would be spending more of his time alone.

And then one of them has to go off to a separate post!

I've only ever met him briefly at a signing.

Can't say that I'm shocked -- the roles he plays tend to be assholes. He may just be playing himself some of the time.

and wince for poor Keiko

Yeah... She tried at first, but by the end I think to save her marriage she had to remove her family from DS9. The thing is, I thought on TNG and at the start of DS9 she was much more sympathetic than she was by the end of DS9 - despite the fact that that's when she probably deserved it more.

And then one of them has to go off to a separate post!

I know! So sad!

Right, it really did get to the point where Miles could either choose to stay on DS9 or choose to keep his family, and his family was ultimately more important (as it should be, since he had the two kidlets).

I know! I absolutely ADORE Yuna. I haven't played FFX2 yet but I've seen the FMVs and some cut scenes up to the concert. I've JUST finished FFX. Well, sort of. I played up to just before the last few end scenes and then a friend loaded his game for me because his game was due to finish quicker and we were pushed for time. am assuming you've played FFX too?

Yeah. I adored it so much. Tidus! Yuna! The only time that I've ever 'shipped video game characters.

And Yuna's so adorable in the second one (and that big symbol on her outfit is the Zanarkan Abes symbol!).

Well, it's right over her breasts, so there's a distraction right there.
