Got a scare today. My mom called me around four to let me know that my grandma had been admitted to the hospital for a nose bleed and that, given traveling time, I'd probably be one to pick her up.

My grandma is eighty-nine. She's probably the toughest person that I've ever met. She can be frustrating and infuriating and I love her so much.

She's had such a very full life and she still lives every day, independent and capable.

So, she called me around five and I went to the hospital to pick her up (incidentally, this was actually the same hospital that I was born in). She was a little shaky and definitely scared, but she's so strong. She gave me many vegetables to take home -- lemon cucumbers and such.

I got her home and told her that I'd visit her next week. I never get to see her and I'd like to change that.

Glad to hear she's doing better. And yes, don't let this opportunity pass, otherwise you'll just have regrets.

Thank you.

And yeah, I always wanted to spend more time with her but was never sure how to start.

Ah, family, always trying to foist food on you. Glad she's ok, though!

Thanks.

And yeah, that's pretty much one of the cardinal rules of family.

I think it sometimes takes an event like this to make us appreciate what we have. Go and see her, enjoy her company and make the most of her. My grandma died when she was only in her early 70s and I never really got to make the most of her, and I regret that.

I'm definitely going to try. I don't want to have regrets for something that I can control.

Sorry to hear your grandmother was unwell - but hey, maybe it was just a nosebleed. People get those at all ages - so long as she eats OK she should make up the blood loss.

Hopefully, it was. At 89, though, everything's more dangerous.

Thanks.

*hugs and loves to you and your grandmother*

My dad is 82 and sick with congestive heart failure. But he is still srong willed and independent and cranky and I love him.

Just wanted to share. *smiles*
