I don't watch Andromeda any more, but the recent news about the election results is making me think of an episode entitled To Loose the Fateful Lightning that talked about differing definitions of peace. I've also been thinking about the difference between what the Peacekeepers in Farscape started out as and what they became by the time we first met them.

I've been thinking about the utter impracticality of using up the earth and moving out to destroy a new system of worlds, such as in Firefly. About those who seek to consume and curtail and own. People who are so terrified of anything that they don't thoroughly possess that they are willing to manipulate, lie, murder, and obliterate to get what they want.

I've been thinking about Rome and blood and corruption eating inward until the tree collapses, rotted through. A society that forsakes the principles that it was built on is a society that has undermined its foundations. One that is structurally unsound.

Latest news is that Oregon most likely passed Measure 36, the one that amends the Constitution and limits marriage to be strictly one man:one woman. Oh, yay, I've always wanted to be a second-class citizen. Latest news is that Bush is ahead on the numbers for the Presidency. Unjust war, running up a huge deficit, and pandering to rich. That's so my thing.

*sigh*

These are not things that fill my heart with joy. I already grieve for the thousands of deaths that our country has caused, now I grieve for the thousands more that may soon follow.

To Loose the Fateful Lightning
Dylan: "Tell them that peace is the way."
Nassan: "They know that already. You'll kill our enemies, and then we'll have peace."

I worry about the fact that, to far too many people, that really is an acceptable definition of peace.

Tomorrow, I'll be willing to fight again. Kerry could still win if he gets... Ohio, is it? So, yes, I'll wait but I think that I'll also wait on hoping.

Today... I'm just so very tired of it all.

ETA: He may have conceded. Oddly ambigious article.

Unrelated to the post, but I really liked "The Talented Mr. Ripley." I haven't seen any fanfic for it though, which surprises me.

I did find some... but I don't know if it's still around. I'll look around and see if I kept the links.

It's a definitely a great movie. It's the movie that sold me on Matt Damon's talent as an actor. I always end up hurting for Tom almost as much as I hurt for Peter.

*hugs back, tightly*

I just don't understand how a majority of Oregonians could feel that way. It's... it's like being bitten by a dog that's always seemed incredibly friendly.

I live on the other side of the Cascades when not in school and have always been afraid of dogs.
