So, on occasion I go over to Our Stargate because a) once in a while they say something deep and interesting (really, it's true) and b) if that doesn't happen, I can always end up staring at the screen wondering what show they're actually watching and I've reached a secure point in my love where I'm fine with that. The hate doesn't touch my love.

Anyway, my current bafflement is over the bashing of Lexa Doig's acting -- they lumped her in with Vanessa Angel. Dude, Lexa consistently played three variations on her character in every episode (five in the first season finale) and I've long been impressed by her acting. I was being impressed by Lexa's acting before I even knew that Michael existed. Plus, she is absolutely gorgeous, in a way that comes across as completely natural. And the way they just say "Oh, another stupid bad actress," you get the idea that they haven't seen her act at all.

Prejudice is a really ugly thing, no matter where you find it, I suppose.

An idea is just an idea -- whether it comes off well depends entirely on the people implementing it. Ben Browder is a strong actor, so he'll probably be able to overcome the sometimes weak writing on SG-1. Ditto with Claudia, and I am so thrilled that she's playing Vala and not an Aeryn clone. I hated Aeryn. I like Claudia a lot more when she's playing a funny character (the episode where I liked Aeryn best was Crackers Don't Matter, when she was wacky). And Lexa Doig is a very strong actor, too. I kept watching Andromeda for as long as I did because the acting was so strong, but they had Kevin Sorbo instead of RDA and I got so tired of the captain doing all the chicks -- I think that I snapped when he macked on the mentally ill woman.

But why would they bash Lexa Doig? It's not like she's being cast as a love interest or anything controversial. She's the new CMO, right? If anything, shouldn't they be bashing Vala/Claudia Black because she had the temerity to stick her tongue down Daniel's throat? *rolls eyes*

Never saw Farscape or Andromeda, so can't comment there. I'm mostly of the opinion that, if we can get more female characters onto Stargate SG-1, there is no bad there. I think Sam works best of all when she's playing against other female characters, so I'd love to see her interact with Vala and the new CMO.

I enjoyed Lexa Doig on Andromeda. In fact, in the first episode with Shanks I thought that in comparison to him she did a much better job. Of course, she was playing her own character and he was playing an android version of Daniel Jackson... yeah, didn't help my argument there.

I just hope they don't turn her character into a love interest for Daniel, because married couples tend not to have any chemistry on-screen.

That sucks. I love Lexa and she's a damn good actress (even on a show like Andromeda which isn't that great).

Plus, it's not that damn easy to play three different versions of the same character. That takes talent to do it well and Lexa does that.

It's a bit of the Jonas syndrome, from what I can see -- they hate the idea of someone replacing Janet. Of course, Janet died in S7, so it isn't as though there hasn't been time to adjust.

Word to more female characters. SG-1 needs them.

She's a great actor. For a while there, I was watching the show just for Rommie and Harper. Then it got really bad, but the blame for that rests mostly on Tribune and Kevin Sorbo, as I understand it.

It really isn't easy at all. Lexa managed to keep all three distinct and yet clearly the same personality.
