a footstep on new snow
Jan. 2nd, 2008 04:27 pmSecond day of a brand-new year (for people following the Gregorian calendar). Tomorrow, I'm going to my student orientation for the Art Institute. Very exciting.
All in all, I'm looking forward to the year 2008 CE. I'm going to be in school and am genuinely thrilled about the notion of attending classes in a way I haven't felt since, oh, I was sixteen. I'm feeling much more confident in myself and my own worthiness as a person. When I do feel sad or depressed, it takes much less time to cycle out of those feelings than it used to, and my happiness and contentment lasts longer.
On the fannish side of things, I've been enjoying the majority of my television shows this year and I'm firmly on the side of the writers in the current strike. What they do, they do both for themselves and for the rest of the creative parts of television. I hope they stand strong.
I'm looking forward to both new Torchwood and new Doctor Who and what spoilers I've heard have only made me more excited.
The last new movie I saw in 2007 was Sweeney Todd, which was brilliant. Revenge and obsession and the dangers of only seeing the surface beauty. Highly recommended, though very bloody and grim (lots of morbid humor, though). Sort of a study in what not to do to achieve happiness (on all sides -- Sweeney, Judge Turpin, and Mrs. Lovett all acted in ways that doomed the hope of their future).
