Doctor Who: The Daleks (1st Doctor)
Jul. 24th, 2007 09:52 pmSo, I watched the Daleks' introductory story, featuring Susan, Barbara, and Ian as companions.
It was a lot of fun, partly for silly reasons and partly because I really enjoyed the characters. Barbara is absolute gold -- I like her more each time that I see her (also, her moment at the end of the story really reminded me of a Martha moment in 42, which kinda hammers home the whole 'Martha is more like the Old Who companions' thing). Susan is a bit of a wimp, but adorable and clever. Ian is the only one that I'm not incredibly attached to, but I do like him.
Then, of course, there's the Doctor. There are some big differences between then and now, but there were quite a few moments where I looked at the screen and went, "Yeah, that's the Doctor, all right."
The Doctor and Susan are so cute -- there's this really sweet moment where the Doctor stands up to do some recon and Susan yells at him to duck down and stay out of sight and then she spends the rest of the scene clinging to his arm. She worries about him. It's nice. I find them quite believable as grandfather and granddaughter.
