Doctor Who (also, podslash, huh?)
Mar. 20th, 2006 01:42 amWatched the SciFi reruns of the first two Doctor Who episodes, Rose and End of the World (I was visiting my parents over the weekend). I quite liked them. He's charming (wonderful smile), she's lovely (really liked her delivery, too), and they've loads of chemistry. Very much looking forward to the rest of the series (season).
I really do need some Brit scifi/comedy/drama type icons. Hmm.
Also, there's this new thing popping up. Podslash, where a story is recorded (by the author, mostly, I suspect) and then posted as an audio file. The name seems to come from the whole podcast concept that's being used by Ron Moore (Battlestar Galactica guy) wherein there's a commentary for the episodes available online immediately after the episode airs (probably not just him, but he's the only one I know).
I'm only occasionally an auditory learner. Mostly, I'm about words and about visuals and words and story colliding. So, that could be why I completely fail to grasp the 'why' behind podstories.
Also, the whole thing reminds me a bit of porn sites. Not a slam, seeing as I know this from experience, having spent a little bit exploring the wide range of free internet porn (this was directly after the Harlequin romance stage). They've options for people to call in and leave stories. Never really did it for me. But narration has never really done all that much for me, in any case. I like dialogue and action, not action being read out. Personal preference, I suppose.
Though there is the occasional voice that I could spend an hour listening to read a telephone book -- Kevin Sorbo has a lovely voice, for instance, it completely makes me forget that he's apparently very arrogant and suchlike. Ewan McGregor has a fantastic voice. Still, not sure that's the same thing.
I guess I'm just confused as to why and how it started. Also, why.
Edit: Also, if anyone has any DW fanfic recs, that would be lovely. Thanks.
