butterfly: (Not crazy - Lex)
So, I sent in my [livejournal.com profile] ds_undercover story. The second that it was sent, I realized that the story sucks. This may or may not actually be true, but it will feel true until the damn thing is posted somewhere.

*twitches*

In other news, today at work? Not so much with the good. Sometimes, I would swear that the people going through drive-thru are being morons on purpose. It's just hard to see how that many people can manage to be that dumb. It really isn't such a hardship to read the menu. If you're going through the drive-thru, one would assume that you aren't legally blind. Because. Yes. What with driving a car and all.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] jic, if you see this entry before I call you, call me. Because I would love to come over at one, but there's a chance that I would have to leave about five, which is short, as time goes.

Also, I would like my brain much better if it would stop scraping itself against the inside of my skull. At least, that's what it feels like it's doing. No, it's more like having a cheese grater inside my head.
butterfly: (literary - Buffy)
Went back to check out [livejournal.com profile] fanfic_hate. The Buffy thread? Oh, wow, priceless. I don't agree with everything on there, but some of those comments are so true. I could never say any of them, because 'polite' was bred much more deeply in me than 'nice', and I don't think it's nice or polite to tell people that they suck as writers. Even if it's true.

Of course, the amusing thing is that even some of the writers that I agree are overrated are ones that I enjoy. They're the... Smallville's of fanfic. I watch SV for the pretty and shiny, not for brilliant dialogue or in-depth looks at ethical issues. I don't only read the wonderful and thoughtful stories.

These are stories that I would describe using the same sentence that I described Troy with -- It's not incredibly good, but it's wonderful fun (which it is, btw -- adore that movie).

Honestly, I'd like to repeat what I said earlier on this subject -- it can be good for people to have a place to vent their anger and frustration. The problem only occurs if people wallow in those feelings instead of moving on (which would be the reason that I left Television Without Pity -- ha, more like Whining Without Thought, most of the time).

Hurt feelings happen, though. Which sucks. I honestly don't know how I'd feel to see my name up on one of those threads. Probably, it would hurt. Feelings are feelings.

But that goes both ways. Just as writers are free to write whatever they wish in their stories, readers have the right to say whatever they like about those stories. They can say that they hate it, that the characterization sucks, and that is completely and totally true from their perspective.
more talk about hate, including much psychological bullshitting... )
In other news, there's a spider in my bathroom. Brown. Short legs. Haven't a clue what kind it is. Also, I've decided that I will update my website today. I have several things that need to be uploaded.

Though, first, I should probably beta a story that's been in my inbox since the weekend.
butterfly: (Who We Are - Daniel (by destina))
Is Carter ever in selfhood peril? Because that's what seems to be what draws Daniel to Jack in Abyss and to Teal'c in The Changeling. It's not about their lives being in danger, but their personhood, who they are. Does Sam have an episode like that? Because if she doesn't, then the answer to why Daniel never appeared to her is simple and, well, not an 'ouch' for her. If she does, though, then that brings up all kinds of questions (I've been watching S4 and observing some very interesting Daniel vibes towards Sam and Jack, which is why the question).

Also, I have seen vid-age of Season Seven Daniel. I'm thinking of building an altar. One that features green, because blue is too obvious. Green goes nicely with his eyes without being too much (I'm thinking of [livejournal.com profile] lasultrix's pretty military geek chic icon). Though I think his hottest moment is breaking through the glass in Meridian. You can't even seen his face when he lands, but it is still so incredibly hot. Self-sacrifice as the ultimate turn-on, I suppose.

Edit: Too much exposure to Stargate may induce use of excess exclamation marks and inspire loud squeals of giddy joy. Consider yourself warned.
