It was sweet of my muse to come back for my birthday.

I should probably go to sleep. But, instead, I believe that I will Do Things On My Website. Or read F/K fic. One of those. Maybe both. Because I indulge myself on my birthday.

Well, to be perfectly frank, I indulge myself most days. But let's not ruin a good excuse.

Secret Santa slash story

I've been thinking about why I'm willing to sign up for the *nsync one and not the Buffy or Harry Potter ones.

The biggest reason is that *nsync is the only fandom where I've written outside of my otp. With Buffy, I've written non-shippy stories, but even then, they weren't about another couple. In *nsync, I've written every pairing. I've written some threesome stuff.

I'm much more laid-back when it comes to *nsync. Maybe it's the fandom vibe. Maybe it's because the five guys just have such great personalities. I don't know.

But everywhere else, I'm much more rabidly OTP.

And since I can't talk about my new fic, I'll yammer on about last year's for a while.

That fic was... a landmark fic for me. It was my coming out fic, the reason that I told my mom about my slashy sex writing tendencies. It was non-JuLa, which was a scary idea for me at the time. But most of all, it was about the *nsync guy that I was least attracted to: JC.

And I'm proud of it. It isn't terribly long, but it is the longest fic that I've completed. It made me all proud of myself for making the deadline. It was a challenge because I had to figure out how to get JC and Nick together and how to finish the story. It's not happy, which was a change from the sappy JuLa that I write much of the time. It has a line in the beginning that totally foreshadows the ending.

So, yeah. It was cool. I hope that I can have as much fun with it this year.

due South

The rub with due South fiction is that I can't see myself writing short fiction in that fandom and yet can't work up to long fiction as of yet (God, the things that Buffy has done to my phrasing.).

It's sad. Something that I'm working to overcome. Luckily, as due South has been cancelled for a while now, there really isn't a terrible rush. It's not like Buffy, where story ideas are always in danger of getting Jossed. Like, my recent snippet, Dusted, is totally Jossed as apparently it never crosses Buffy's mind to stake Spike.

*sad sigh*

Eeep. I'll find out today if mom bought me Men With Brooms!

So, I opened my birthday card from my uncle Neil, sternly reminding myself that he certainly has no obligation to send me money.

What do I find? A 300 dollar check.

I can pay my mom rent next month. Whee! Good start to the whole paying mom for room/board/internet thing.
