"It's just a TV show. I don't know why you get so worked up."
To quote a TV character: No such animal.
It's art. And there's no such thing as 'just' art. All of it is shaped by the feelings, beliefs, and desires of both the person/people who made/make it and the people who encounter it.
Or rather, you can take out of it whenever you're willing to put in.
You judge. For example, despite the many people who tell me what a great movie Gone With The Wind is, I'll never see it. I won't support anything that romanticizes slavery, no matter how light the support. That's a line that I refuse to cross. Huck Finn, though it uses the word 'nigger', uses it in a way that shows us that color doesn't matter. It uses it to illustrate the small-mindedness of the people who say it.
You don't romanticize hate.
Which is where I slam into a wall with Spike. Spike romanticizes pain and hate. He's practically the fucking embodiment of romanticized death.
So, I can never like Spike as a character. That's another line for me. I can enjoy watching his character, I can love to hate his character, but flat-out like? Not unless he repents of his evil.
Or... blah, blah, blah, oddly rigid morality-cakes.
And then, after reading that, you have to remember that I'm one of those people who doesn't mind reading incest. Heh. I'm a very complex person. Or possibly a hypocrite.

If you're born here, then you have a right to breath the air, walk the land, love who you want to love, and do what makes you happy as long as doing so doesn't infringe on others' rights to the same thing.
Life: Simple, yes? Everyone has the right to live. To have enough food and water to survive. To have shelter.
Liberty: No person shall own another. No one has the right to take away someone's freedom.
The Pursuit of Happiness: Which never guarantees that you'll be happy. It just says that you have the right to try to find your own happiness.
These are the three cornerstones that Jefferson thought were the essential rights that you get merely by being born.
The tricky word is 'unalienable' or 'incapable of being repudiated or transferred to another'.
Because we lock people up and, occasionally, we kill them.
But only if they themselves violate someone's rights.

I just posted the link to a page that mentions Cartercest. I posted it on TWoP. I mean, it was in response to someone asking if Aaron and Nick really looked that much alike. So, I'm all, decide for yourself and feel free to ignore the words.

Boundary Issues

A. I don't want to alienate people that I like.
and
B. I don't want to separate the parts of my life.
Which means that I talk about Buffy one minute, Cartercest the next, and then I move onto how much it sucks that all of our Presidents have been white males.
I'm fully honest about who I am. I use my real name in writing. I've given my address out to people that I've never met, may never meet. I extend absolute trust to everyone. I've only lost faith in someone once. And yeah, I'm only 19, but that's a pretty good record.
I like you. Whoever you are, if I were walking past you on the street, I'd smile at you. Just because you were there and you're a person and hell, who can't use another smile?
But some of the things that I like, other people call them sick and wrong. And that hurts. It really does.
