Yeah, I was really thrilled to find out that we'd see him.
I think that he had to leave though, because the writers weren't listening to him at all (much like they ignored MS in S5, from what I've been able to find out). RDA wanted his character to be promoted so that he would have less to film and could spend more time with his daughter and instead they still had 'wall-to-wall' Jack.
He was also displeased about them delving into Jack's personal life in Threads, too, from comments he's made -- apparently, he's the one who kept Jack from becoming the stereotypical ladies' man leader. It's their own fault for (once again) not listening to an actor's fairly simple requests. Do these people not learn from their mistakes?
I have quite a lot of respect for RDA, the more I find out about him.
