Stargate SG-1 8x17 -- Reckoning, Part 2

The first time that I saw Daniel die, it wasn't a big deal. Everyone died (this was The Nox, btw). I flinched when the guys got hit, though, because I wasn't expecting it. But it was obvious that it wouldn't last.

The next time I saw Daniel die, it wasn't a big deal. I'd just been watching him in the series and he was the main character (Stargate, the movie). It was a brave way to go and it helped place another strong brick on the foundation of the Jack/Daniel relationship. It showed him how to save Sha'uri. But I still winced when he died.

When I saw Meridian, I knew that he was coming back. I still cried.

Tonight, Daniel Jackson died again. I actually reached out towards the screen and said, "Oh, my poor baby." And I might have peeked through my fingers when he was stabbed. That was his most personal death, I think. He's been shot and radiated and... shot some more, but he's never been skewered before. She was standing right in front of him and just killed him. Smart of her, but ouch.

I know that he's going to come back. He always comes back. I've never had to see him die and know that it would be the last time.

I loved this episode. Thought it kicked a ton of ass. Jack was just amazing and Daniel was so very smart. And he managed to freeze the replicators in place for just long enough. Even so far apart, SG-1 was a team tonight. And that's beautiful.

And it was nice that the Jaffa are finally free. Will this freedom prompt them to become interesting? Time will tell.

Stargate Atlantis 1x17 -- Letters from Pegasus

The first half of the season didn't impress me at all, but I am very impressed now.

There were both tears and laughter. God, this show just keeps getting better.

Good for Atlantis.

Ford was wonderful, both pragmatic and yet incredibly soppy. Beckett was great. Zelenka was amazing, I am so glad that they had that part.

Weir completely blew me away. Ditto with Teyla, who had some very nice and interesting tension with Sheppard, who I wanted to hug for not seeming to have anyone he needed to give a message to back on Earth.

And Rodney... there are not words. I adored him so much. I'm so happy that they made the spin-off and put Rodney in it, because I'm in awe of how much pathos David has created while still keeping the arrogant jerk part of Rodney alive and well.

BSG continues to intrigue me.

What got to me about this death- right, we had to watch Daniel get stabbed, watch him die- and then they went and disintegrated the ship he was on. I mean, I knew it was coming, but it was an extra punch just seeing the place he was reduced to space glitter.

Was this death four or five? I thought there was one more, in addition to what you lidted in your entry.

BSG… BSG had more Apollo on it yesterday. :) I liked.

Yeah, that was... painful. He's just no good at taking care of himself. He's so stubborn and snarky and completely lacking in the vital skill of self-preservation.

Death-wise, you may be thinking of The Light, where he died for a minute, I think.

More Apollo is pretty much always good.

I've only been watching SG-1 since the second half of this season (other than some random reruns), so this was the first time I've seen Daniel die in the show. And I actually wasn't really expecting it, so I gasped when she stabbed him, and again when the ship was gone.

Yes and yes! I was hoping I wasn't the only one who laughed and got teary.

It's horrible enough even when it is expected. Eeep, I don't know how I'd feel about an unexpected death. I so would have freaked if I'd been around in S5, real time.

Wasn't it great? They've really established themselves as a show. I was very impressed.

Ditto to that. And like you, I'm impressed that DH somehow manages to strike the delicate balance between likeable and jerk. It's pretty amazing how far that character has come.

It's funny, though, how it comes right after the break point. It's like they went away and said, "Okay, that was sucking, let's try making it good." And then they did.

It really is. And rewatching 48 Hours... yeah, that's still McKay, that's just McKay with all of his walls up, not showing any vulnerability or any doubt that he's completely correct. That's the McKay that he shows to the world, the McKay that our guys are most familiar with. And there's so much more to him, but the asshole part is still there. Very impressive.
