Just read "Release" and am very happy I found it.

I really like how the Jedi code is part of the story and gives it structure.

My favorite bit is probably this line:
Each mission they spent together shines in his memory, sparkling like broken glass, cutting his heart to ribbons.

Anakin's turn to the Dark Side really breaks Obi-Wan's heart.
When I watch the classic trilogy, I'm always angry with Obi-Wan for lying to Luke about his father. I understand that he didn't tell him the whole truth, but telling him that evil Vader and killed good Anakin is just a very dangerous lie. What did he think would have happened if Luke killed Vader - and then discovered he had killed his own father?! I'm convinced this would have turned Luke to the Dark Side as well.
Despite being angry with Obi-Wan I also think that he had to split Anakin and Vader into two different personae to cope with his loss. Your story shows us how Obi-Wan would change gradually to the man we meet in ANH.

On another note: It's quite remarkably how much Anakin's strong emotions affect people around him. Padme, the duty oriented senator gives in to his love. And Obi-Wan who's the perfect Jedi in a way also becomes more open around Anakin. In fact, I think his love for Anakin is his only weakness in his perfect Jedi behaviour.

Thank you!

It's really the only thing that Obi-Wan has left, at the end of RotS, isn't it? And it's so important to him, and yet, he couldn't manage to achieve serenity when Anakin betrayed him (and his affection for Anakin caused him ignorance where he was capable of knowledge -- he had all the pieces for why Anakin would betray the Jedi, but his love for Anakin made him incapable of putting them together).

And thank you so much for the detailed feedback! It's really wonderfully flattering to get that kind of response.

He definitely has an 'attachment' to Anakin that lingers on despite his best efforts. And his affection blinded him to the darker part of Anakin's nature, the part that he had seen before ("the boy is dangerous").
