Personal: San Francisco trip
Dec. 6th, 2005 11:41 pmI actually got back way back on Sunday night, but I've been busy since then, with work and catching up on my sleep.
Overall, it was awesome. The cable cars were fun, with very personable operators. Fisherman's Wharf was cool. Coit Tower was really interesting. Walking all the way from Fisherman's Wharf to Coit Tower, including walking up Telegraph Hill, was exhausting. But it was, indeed, neat to see the streets that were so steep that stairs had to be carved into them. But, wow, that's really quite a walk.
Taking the bus back down to Fisherman's Wharf was much easier (we tried to take the bus on the way up, except we didn't find the route until we were actually there).
Because some things are the same the world over, we also visited the local Hard Rock Cafe while we were there.
The big event on Sunday was Cirque du Soleil, which, let me tell you, definitely lives up to the hype. Wow -- those were some of the most coordinated, flexible, acrobatic people ever. Also, there was a pair of cute hoop guys that I cheerfully slashed together, plus a way cute leaping-ballerina catcher who got accidentally walloped in the balls by one of the leaping ballerinas (poor guy). I can't speak much to the performance, because I'm still all dazzled, but I will say that the show was surreal and beautiful and that I highly recommend seeing it.
I also got my hair cut by a recent Russian émigré who did, indeed, say, "my darling" quite a lot. It's not as 'serious-looking' now (she was very much of the opinion that my hair was too serious for my age), and has some layering and suchlike.
