I have rarely had as easy a time getting other people to enjoy a show as I have with Firefly (Stargate SG-1 is also a really easy sell, though). All I need to do is show the real pilot episode, and people get hooked. Ended up going through the first two discs of the series with a couple of people tonight, because they kept wanting to see more (and they've expressed interest in seeing the movie, which, yay!).

Which is a thrillin' feeling. Firefly is a show with such a delightful cast of characters. There isn't a one of them that I don't love. And it's wonderful to see other people fall in love with them, too.

So, I rewatched from Serenity to Jaynestown tonight (It appears that Simon sheds the vests at the end of Jaynestown. At least, it's the first time that we see him in that sweater, I do believe. He's starting to adjust to the black.). The character continuity really does just blow the mind, when they're watched that closely together. It all makes so much sense, the way it spirals around.

Love this show. Love these people. Love this Whedon, man.

ETA: Just went out to the kitchen to grab a bite and they're watching more (they're up to Ariel). Very cool.

I wonder if they made it through the entire series in one night (if so, wow, and tell them I'm very impressed. And slightly jealous, as now I want to do it, too.).

I'm trying to pimp Firefly this weekend, so I can get my friends to go see Serenity... unfortunately, my fiance is working against me. So I guess we'll see how it turns out...

*sigh*

That's a shame. I'll be wishing you luck, as we can always use more Browncoats.

Ah, I just finished watching Ariel. Pretty good. I dislike Jayne a lot, but scenes heavily featuring him tend to be good, and I adore Simon and incest.

Given Ariel, I seem to have been wrong in my original assumption that Persephone was a Core Planet, which... means that there's even less coherence to the 'verse than I'd thought. Oh, my head hurts.

I really like Jayne as a character, though I seriously doubt I'd like him in real life.

Simon is highly adorable. And the Best Brother Ever.

Persephone is Core-er than most of the places that Mal and the other go, but Mal wouldn't spend anywhere near that much time on a real Core planet.

If it helps, they're all in one solar system. "Dozens of planets, hundreds of moons." So, the Alliance is based on the central planets (The twin capitals are Sihnon (Inara's homeplanet and the base of the Chinese-ish half of the population) and Londonium (base of the Americanish half), their influence fading as you spiral out to the Outer Rims. And cheap anti-grav tech isn't much more of a leap than faster-than-light tech (which Firefly does not have), which is to say, they're both pretty much 'magic tech' at this point.

And one of the things that I like about Firefly is the literization of the "space is the final frontier" metaphor. Because it's funny. And I, apparently, Think Like Joss (something that I've long suspected). Joss gets it out in the open, giving him room to play with it.

I successfully pimped Firefly to my dad a few weeks ago. I'd been campaigning to see Serenity for weeks and finally my dad just told me to bust out my DVDs so he would know what the heck I was talking about. He ended up loving the series (we watched a dvd each day) and the movie when we saw it after finishing the DVDs. He would laugh and repeat lines and ask me about background things, and just a day or so ago he asked me about something he couldn't remember correctly. It was great to finally find something that my dad and I could both enjoy again, since he doesn't like Buffy/Angel or Stargate. We haven't bonded over a show like this since... hmm, maybe Star Trek?

You know, I get a ST vibe from it all sometimes, too. It's not the same kind of show in a lot of ways, but the hope and faith and friendship, the things that stuck with me the most from Trek, those things are the same. A journey that doesn't necessarily have a purpose, except that it is a journey, and one with friends that are family.
