Also, I have realized that I have not yet said anything about the S2 credits for Teen Wolf and I love them and think they're completely awesome. I love that they actually went and set up these complicated artsy credits. Many shows do not do that. I mean, I enjoy the 'hey, clips from the show' approach to credits and they can work, but having actual meaningful credits specifically made for the show is a nice little value-added.

And they're gorgeous. There's a lot of interesting stuff going on. It's just obvious that genuine deep thought was put into them and I really enjoy that (there's quite a bit of thoughtfulness in the show so far, lots of evidence that the writer/creator has done his homework on the world that he's exploring). I also appreciate that their commitment to shirtless guys extends all the way into the credits. Some things that I find particularly intriguing:

a) Jackson and Allison are both introduced via their connection to Scott. Jackson via lacrosse, Allison via romance.

b) Stiles is the first character to be introduced by himself (and he's one of only two who is entirely on his own in his credits sequence). It's really interesting to me that Stiles, Scott's best friend, is not at all associated with/defined by Scott in the credits the way that Jackson and Allison are. He's not identified with Scott, but we do see his jeep. And the predominant feeling in his section is deliberation. He moves with intent.

c) Derek being the second person who is all on his own.

d) Water is all over the place in most of the credits, but Stiles is only delineated by light (air? maybe it's the background that's more important? The light is being caused by something that Stiles actually owns; it's his light that shines on him and that he blocks out) and Derek is covered in ash (fire? Which is Derek all over).

e) In reversal to Allison, Lydia is introduced on her own, and then we see her with Jackson.

f) The muddy figures are very interesting -- mud being water and earth mixed together.

Lots of interesting stuff there.

2x08

1) Sheriff Stilinski saying "One's an incident, two's coincidence, three's a pattern" after I was recently mentioning to someone that Derek has stepped in to be protective of Stiles three times kinda tickled me pink (1 - Peter; 2 - Isaac; 3 - Jackson). And, while I'm talking about Derek and Stiles, I actually really like the slow pace at which they are building trust. The difference in 1x04 and 2x04 was striking and yet not too much. Especially in context of how long it's been on the show (we're only just now coming up on our fourth full moon, I think, so it's been two months between 1x04 and 2x04 for Derek and Stiles, I think). I like that there is definite progression there but it also definitely is not being rushed. Maybe in 3x04, they'll admit to actually trusting each other.

2) Hmm. That conversation between Dr. Deaton and Stiles was very interesting. Deaton sees something in Stiles -- some kind of innate talent/gift? Or possibly a certain type of willpower/intelligence? And it goes hilariously over Scott's head; his face in that scene was pretty funny. Oh, Scott.

3) Allison ratted out Jackson to her dad? That's... okay, then. That's information that I now have.

4) This show and its willingness to deal with real life consequences is something that I'm really enjoying. Stiles trying to stop Jackson from killing people has resulted, ultimately, in his dad being fired. Again, this is very grounding for the show. It's not all about high-stakes horror/fantasy life and death stuff. It's also about Stiles's dad being fired or Scott possibly being held back a grade. Because engaging in fantasy-world stuff has an effect on the 'mundane'. Because the things you choose to do will have consequences you can't predict.

Again, Stiles's choices have a huge affect on the people around him. Deaton called him a spark earlier and it's...it's very appropriate. Stiles is the reason Scott is a werewolf in the first place. Stiles is the one who is constantly pushing and moving and who can't stay still. He's dynamic. He's...ah. He is air. A fire can't start without air.

(by contrast, Derek is extremely reactionary; he's constantly being done to by circumstances and the people around him -- even his formation of a pack feel reactionary. He keeps talking about needing to be stronger. He's reacting, not acting)

5) Stiles avoids sharing his private hurts just as much as Derek does, doesn't he? He only recently told Scott that he used to have panic attacks after his mom died, and he doesn't tell Scott about his dad getting fired. He's a fixer; he wants to make things better for other people.

6) Aw, Scott wanting Isaac to be careful. Scott really is a very good person when he's not trapped in the Allison-fog where he can't think of anything but her.

7. The contrast between Derek being tased here and being tased by Kate back in 1x05 really hurts my heart. Because here, he can handle it and keep fighting, but with Kate, he was just so traumatized by her already and the way he reacted around her was painful to watch.

8) Oh, very interesting with the handful of dust that made a line fifty-feet long. They're very clearly going somewhere very purposeful with Stiles in the future and I'm looking forward to it. The circle ultimately didn't serve any purpose except to show us that Stiles could do that. It didn't actually stop anything; it had to be broken almost right away in order for Derek to save Scott. It was only up long enough to show that Stiles had successfully created it.

(and, more troubling, up long enough for Gerard to notice it)

9) Stiles, Isaac, and Erica made a cute team. And then Derek and Stiles's interaction was much more equal than previously. Derek doesn't threaten Stiles to get him to act, he presents the situation and he also shows more emotion than normal (did he say "ohmygod" the same way that I'm pretty sure we've heard Stiles say it?) and there was completely unnecessary touching as Derek passed Stiles, too.

10) So, Scott, Derek just risked his life to save you! I'm sure this means you will appreciate him more in the future, right?

Derek was also continuing to be fairly emotionally raw at Deaton's when he said "thank you".

And I already have four vid ideas for the show. I'm hooked, safe to say.

Derek freaking out when he heard Scott howl makes me wince, because, there Scott KNEW that Derek would come and rescue him. LIKE HE DOES EVERY SINGLE TIME. (He has risked his life for Scott since day one. Damn it, Scott, get a CLUE). And that was Derek genuinely freaking out about somebody who is pack. Never mind their objective - PACK MATTERS. And yes, he was certainly raw when he thanked Deaton later. He likely was also suffering some effects from the wolfsbane smoke, not as much as Scott - but yeah.

Also - yes, he and Stiles were interacting on a much more equal level - which we see as early as the end of episode 4 - they squabbled at each other in the pool, but worked together, and then when Stiles asked Derek a question about the kanima, he answered. No bitching or prevaricating, he explained himself. And they had a little moment of eye contact that was very much about informing this other person who is competent about what you know.

I would like it s3 for Deaton not to be so mysterious and magical - and be somebody that the Pack can GO to. For sanctuary and help, because so far they haven't let the Sheriff and Mama McCall REALLY be that. These kids can handle a lot, but they need to know they have a safe place.

This episode was very much about the pack. From Isaac and Derek and Scott chatting with Deaton and figuring things out (and how much did I adore the boys bitching and Derek being all 'WHY DO I HAVE TO DEAL WITH TEENAGERS, WHY ARE MY CHOICES SO BAD? It was very much 'my younger brothers drive me NUTS.' And then when Isaac was reaching out for the jars, Derek stopped him from potentially hurting himself. <3s.)

Then the plan - everyone had a role. I rather like Erica and Isaac teaming up like that. Their little model walk routines are so lol-worthy and adorable. But, in sync.

:)

I think that they could be filmed less model-like and more predatory, and hopefully they will work on that next season.

Then Boyd and Derek confronting the hunters? I think that Boyd was definitely happy to be the other guy who can be trusted and counted on to hold his own - granted he's not as strong as Derek, but he did good - and that little moment of him not wanting to leave Derek?

<3s.

And Derek wanting to make sure that Scott etc. are okay. <3 <3

See, this is how a pack SHOULD work.

They have each other's backs.

Also - the bit about Scott howling for Derek - callback to season 1, where that was how he found Derek.

Oh, SHOW.

I am sick and tired of Scott's lack of foresight. It's a flaw, and it's something that needs to be addressed - and it should have consequences. Not only that, but the fact that he thinks that he couldn't count on the pack? He EXPECTS to get the benefits of being part of the group without participating or sharing. That is a crappy way to do things.

I mean- as if they wouldn't have protected his mom. COME ON, SCOTT.

While Scott keeps messing up with the pack, we have seen Stiles becoming something of a trusted ally - him with Isaac and Erica, he and Derek, he is somebody they KNOW and trust that he isn't going to hurt them and will help if he can. Plus, smart.

SCOTT, TAKE A CUE FROM YOUR BFF, MORON.

Yeah, Deaton has a lot of history, I only hope that he can be helpful, not just judging what Derek has or has not done, because the guy's staying upright and functional after all of this? MAYBE HE NEEDS SOME SUPPORT, WORLD.

Derek does have a little brother that isn't useless, and that is Isaac. I <3 them SO much. And it was such an automatic little gesture.

*wibbles back at you*

Yes, when Scott and Stiles TALK, the plans Scott comes up with are way better - and they work. Instead, he keeps thinking that he can just do something and it will all work out all right.

Which, it isn't.

And, he is a lone wolf type - which, Derek KNOWS is only going to get him, or people around him killed. I mean, ARGH, Scott, if you trusted the pack to back you up, there would have been NO QUESTION that Mama McCall would have been looked out for.

I think/hope that Stiles finds out what Scott did - Isaac heard about it, but I bet he will ask Derek what he meant later. Even if he and Scott are working together/becoming friends, he is still loyal to Derek.

I just <3 them a lot. I want more wacky hijinks - and, Isaac isn't 18 yet, so I wonder about his guardianship.

I love all your commentary!! You're hitting the nail on the head with respect to everyone and their interactions.

I wonder if Jeff Davis is doing a 4-piece-arc. In season 1 we had the fire, which defined the whole villain arc until they were ultimately burned alive (again). In season 2 it was water and Matt, until he got drowned (again). So we just need air and earth to complete the "elements".

It's a really hook-able show!

Ahahaha!! And we both know heart would be perfect for a Stiles arc. *g*
