I really should have been doing my homework but that got a bit addictive.
The music is so completely ridiculous and over-the-top pretty much all of the time. I'm constantly telling the screen "oh, no, you just haven't earned the right to use those musical phrases, what are you thinking?"
Scott and Allison are such a ridiculously high school romance. They're what I feel like The Vampire Diaries wanted Stefan & Elena to be (but which never worked for me because STEFAN IS OVER A HUNDRED YEARS OLD, sheesh, omg stop acting sixteen, you selfish manchild). Also, the show has a sense of humor about how ridiculously high school they are -- the exchange between Peter and Stiles about both Scott's username and password being 'Allison' was funny. Anyway, I find Scott and Allison ridiculous but cute. They do not annoy me. But, man, their romance is on fast-forward. Hasn't it only been a couple of months? We've only had two full moons, I think. They're already on 'I love you's.
So, after two episodes, I was all, "well, Derek is hot" but now I have many complex emotions about him. Many of them of the "oh, that poor kid" variety for what Kate Argent did to him six years ago. No wonder he can't take Scott & Allison seriously. He trusted Kate and she betrayed him and killed his family. And he felt so guilty over it that he's never told anyone. He just let it eat him inside and isolate him. Oh, poor sweetheart. And it makes the Stiles/Derek shipping make even more sense from a meta-level because Stiles is such a nurturer and protector (as seen very much in his relationships with his dad and Scott). One rather does want to throw someone very nurturing and protective at Derek, who has let his heart freeze inside his chest the last six years because the last time he trusted his feelings, the person he trusted killed his family. And it also introduces interesting potential conflict, because Derek would probably worry about being a 'Kate' if he realized he had feelings for a sixteen year-old.
I'm so glad thatMartouf Chris Argent is honorable! I would have been so sad if I'd had to hate him. Allison's mom is really fucking scary, though.
Lydia's mom is Carol Lockwood (TVD)! Streams crossing; can't cope. lol
Stiles! ♥ He's just so...he's brave and clever and can't let up with the smart mouth no matter how much trouble it gets him into. I love characters like that. I could watch that trope in every show/movie ever, I swear. And the way he hated himself for manipulating his dad with alcohol in order to get information...oh, honey. His relationship with his dad is just so touching and complex. And, gotta say, boy is a much better friend to Scott than Scott is to him. Oftentimes, Stiles comes across like an afterthought to Scott, who is just so filled up with Allison that no one else really exists for him.
All of the cross-generational stuff was really great. The only times I liked Kate was when she was interacting with Allison, who might very well have been the only person she genuinely loved.
Jackson and Lydia went and got fairly complex. Lydia, in particular, made me very fond of her by the time the season ended. And I liked Stiles calling her out on how smart she is. I want them to be friends and to do college prep study sessions together or something cute like that.

Date: 2012-08-27 03:28 am (UTC)I have THOUGHTS about this, also Chris Argent and Derek, I want them to hang out.
Lydia is lovely and awesome, and I am hoping that she is going to get to do more with her BRAIN very soon. And that she keeps Jackson in line, because he seems to do best when she does that.
META, DO WE WANT TO?

Date: 2012-08-27 04:54 am (UTC)Scott has such screwed-up priorities. As I have said: ridiculous.

Yes.
META, DO WE WANT TO?
YES.
Also. Being a werewolf in this 'verse seems much more pleasant than being one in TVD. The transformation itself seems a lot less painful.

Date: 2012-08-27 05:09 am (UTC)Scott= ridiculous and I want to swat him.
I mean, Chris and Derek are the only sane members of their families, and I have a feeling that they could have some great conversations, a decent truce, and maybe together train up the next generation not to be complete fuckups.
SO. MUCH. META.
I agree- the werewolves don't appear to be twisted out of shape and literally having themselves ripped apart a la TVD, Being Human. In this show, it's far more natural. And, there are definitely hierarchical rules as to who can shift, control it, and how, etc.

Date: 2012-08-27 11:57 am (UTC)I started with all the Stiles feelings in the world because he is a good friend and nurturing person, but through second season I picked up all the Derek feelings too. He's such a woobie, really.
