I have considerably more thoughts about them than I did about the guys.
1) Chelsea Sorrell - “Cowboy Casanova” by Carrie Underwood

I liked her so much more than I was expecting. I think she pulled off the song really well and that's saying a lot considering what a powerhouse-voice Carrie Underwood is. Big shoes! I felt like Chelsea's voice was effortlessly beautiful. Excellent way to open the show!

2) Erika Van Pelt - “What About Love” by Heart

Another strong voice. I really liked this performance, too, and it was completely different from the first one. Erika was fab.

3) Jen Hirsh - “One and Only” by Adele

Jen has this squeaky thing that her voice does sometimes that puts me off a little, but other than that, loved this performance, too. I love almost everything about her voice except for that little squeak that comes out sometimes.

4) Brielle Von Hugel - “Sitting on the Dock of The Bay” by Otis Redding

Poor Brielle. They tried to overcome the damage that her mom's "stage mom" edit did to her, but I don't think her performance strong enough to do it. The verse is too low for her voice - she's got practically nothing coming out at some points. She does sound a lot better on the chorus but it's not enough, I don't think. Poor kid. I mean, she loves her mom and her mom loves her, so it kinda sucks that her mom is likely to be a major reason why I think she won't make it through. Loved her dress, though, and she really did pull it out on the chorus and she sounded good there.

5) Hallie Day - “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone

Gorgeous! She really put it all out there. Loved it. There was one tiny part in the middle where her notes were... ah, not off-pitch but almost a little choked. But she really came through in the rest of the song. And she looks like a '30s movie star to me - not any particular one, just that vibe. Sorta classy and delicate but with fire.

6) Skyler Laine - “Stay With Me” by Faces

Wow, that was high-energy! Completely unfamiliar with this song, but Skyler was just tons of fun to watch and listen to as she bounced around on stage. She's got an interesting and distinctive voice that really stands out.

7) Baylie Brown - “Amaze” by Lonestar

She really reminds me of Billie Piper, looks-wise. Anyone else seeing that? Is that just me?

Unfortunately, her voice was kinda wobbly at the beginning. It gets stronger as the song goes on, fortunately, and she's sounding really good by the end.

8) Hollie Cavanagh - “Reflection” by Christina Aguilera

Solid, sincere vocal. If the rest of the ladies so far hadn't already been so good, I'd say she was a gimmie for the Top 12, but with how great so many of the people are, I don't know if she'll make it. Lovely, smooth voice. My only quibble isn't a vocal one, but it matters in a visual format - she looks terrified while she's singing.

9) Haley Johnsen - “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics

Low, smoky start to the song, then she pulls it up higher. Really loved parts of it, but other parts didn't work quite as well for me.

10) Shannon Magrane - “Go Light Your World” by Kathy Troccoli

Ah, kinda get a school talent show vibe from this performance. The outfit, the uplifting song, etc. Not really feeling it. She has a good voice, but it's all just a little too... earnest for me.

11) Jessica Sanchez - “I Do” (Dreamgirls) by Jennifer Hudson

Great voice, fun performance. She really gets into it. I like her a lot. Hope she makes it into the Top 12. Very good.

12) Elise Testone - “One and Only” by Adele

Her version sounds completely different than the one Jen did, so at least Jen has that. But I can't imagine that people won't compare anyway and while Jen was strong, Elise's version is even stronger. Jen is great, though, so I really wish they'd sung different songs! Interestingly, Elise actually also has a squeak in her voice sometimes.

On the whole, I thought the girls were a lot stronger than the boys.

Another Idol-related thing that I'm excited about is that Kris Allen's NEW SINGLE, "The Vision of Love", has been released to radio. Really hope my local stations add it soon. The radio version is just infectiously charming. I adore it.
