Vampire Diaries: some thoughts on Caroline

The Caroline-Bill storyline makes me twitchy. I just... it's like her relationship with Matt - she's not considered good enough and she's the one who is apologizing for that. It wasn't true with Matt and it's not true with her dad. Caroline is awesome and seeing her being so... hurt by her dad. It bothers me. The way she kept apologizing last week just really bothered me. And she just seems so defeated/beaten down by him, just like she frequently did in her relationship with Matt.

And I really don't think this is the end of the storyline. Bill hasn't changed his mind about vampires - Caroline saved his life and he still thinks that she's never going to be "okay" again.

Just. One of the reasons that I do like Caroline's story with Tyler is because it's not focused on how Caroline just isn't good enough in the eyes of someone she loves, you know? Haven't we told this story enough times with her?

Yeah, and with Damon, I like that she stands up to him. It was *bad* while it was going on, and he said some horrible things to her, but now he definitely has more regard for her and would not say she isn't 'worthy' of love, etc.

I mentioned it before, but Damon said as much to Bill, meaning 'hi, she is ours now, and you have no right to mess with one of our own.'

When Damon went to rescue Caroline last season, she was numbered as one of his people, and he would have killed Tyler for her, no question - he also let Tyler live at her request and didn't go postal when Tyler bit him.

Choices and consequences. Damon believes in those things, and if Caroline can come to do soemthing similar with the men she loves, then she will be all right.

Of course I hope she doesn't have to have a fraught relationship with her father. Kicking his ass would help lots. Cheaper than therapy, and she could buy him a new shirt.

Yes, Damon defends Caroline as she is now and tells Bill that she doesn't need fixing. It's kinda a shame that Caroline didn't get to hear him saying that - or hear her dad suggesting that the water supply get poisoned.

I totally want Caroline to kick Bill's ass at one point.

Yeah, I mean we see way more of Damon's motivations - Caroline doesn't know why exactly he went after her dad.

Even after she went after him, Damon wasn't in 'kill, mode' there was a spat, but it was okay, because, again, family. And he wanted her to teach Bill a lesson, which, might have worked if Caroline was not so freaked out by her dad and willing to take his crap.

It definitely made me think about how her relationship with Matt makes even more sense for her character, after seeing her accept this treatment from her father. MY CREYS. Thank goodness for Tyler. Hopefully his support will eventually help her build up the strength to demand more from the people who claim to care about her.
