Miracle Day: Rendition

It's just all about the Jossverse alums these days. Gina Torres on Suits, Reed Diamond on Franklin & Bash, and the amazingly talented Dichen Lachman here on Torchwood.

Love that Gwen is already speculating what I've seen fans speculate - that 'Miracle Day' might be happening to target Jack and make him mortal.

Ah, Rex shows that almost dying hasn't made him less of a jerk. So, yeah, you have Torchwood (and only Torchwood) but they're really pissed off at you (and, yes, he's in constant incredible pain but, however, he was a jerk before he was in constant incredible pain).

"Every time anyone ever gets close to you, nobody has a normal life again. And you know what really - and I mean it - really pisses me off - what took you so long? I have to nearly explode before you turn up?" Ah, Gwen, riding the roller-coaster of loving the adrenaline rush, loving the companionship, but feeling guilty for the damage that it does.

"Did you miss me?"
"Yes."

Ah, Gwen had a fear that she and Jack would have a weird Peter Pan-Wendy relationship and whatnot. And she doesn't want to be Wendy.

Dr. Jaurez - I really like her.

Well, I have no idea if the arsenic cure is at all medically valid, but it was tremendously exciting. Gwen is so kick-ass when she goes into high-gear. Gwen will rip up a plane flying at 30,000 feet to save Jack's life. Because she's awesome.

"We're still aging."
"What kind of immortality is that?"

Ha.

Hmm, that PR lady. There's something going on with her. She has a mysterious way of getting into things. Jilly, ah. Hmm. She so very much wants someone to start taking her help, her advice. And she's in such bright red (vs. Jack in his blue, as always). Hmm.

Damn, I think Rex just killed Dichen's character.

...oh, wait. Right. He didn't. Because no one is dying. In fact, Rex himself had a fatal injury. Huh. I can't believe that slipped my mind (probably because I wasn't expecting him to snap her neck like that). Seeing her eyes still moving, knowing that she has a broken neck... really disturbing.

And then the lighter comedy of the airport stuff managed to make me smile again. Roller-coaster. And then eeek the horror-comedy of the backwards-head.

Oswald remains creepy.

Franklin & Bash

Looking at that cut-quote, it totally sounds like something someone would say about Captain Jack Harkness, doesn't it? Heh.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar has managed to get cuter and more charming. How did he manage that? I do find the least convincing part of the show to be his love for Janie. Not because Janie isn't lovable - I actually find her charming, amusing, and fun in the way that I suspect I'm supposed to find Sara Ellis to be over on White Collar - but Mark's character, Peter Bash, is so... romantically flighty. I don't even really mean that in a bad way, just that he seems about a hundred times more loyal as a friend than he does as a lover. He pines over Janie when she's being all there and The Girl Who Got Away, but when she's not there, his attention... drifts.

This show has some really great supporting characters - Pindar and Carmen, the two associates who were working with Franklin & Bash before they were scooped up by the big law firm, are great fun; it has DOMINIC (which is to say, Reed Diamond) playing a character who comes off as a douche at first and then later... okay, still kinda a douche but in the 'interesting character' way, who is the beneficiary of nepotism at the firm; Hanna Linden, who is just excellent - great lawyer, smart, witty.

Interestingly, the two friends of this show are incredibly close but it's also maybe the best example I can think of a non-romantic and non-slashy bromance. I mean, I watched that Suits show and... whoo! slashy as hell even with both the leads obviously being written with female 'love interests'. Franklin & Bash, though, I don't think I could slash them if you gave me money for it.

The show is very much into showing off attractive people - not even just male gaze at women, since they show Peter's... everything except his cock, really, but they show his nude ass in the first episode (he was hot-tubbing naked with a client & some friends), though it is very much mostly women who are half-naked, don't get me wrong. It's... hmm. Yeah, completely lost my train of thought there.

The show is enjoyable to watch. And seriously, Mark-Paul, how did you get even more hot & adorable? I remember swooning over you as Zack on Saved by the Bell (...still kinda wish he'd hooked up with Jessie instead of Kelly)!

I liked him in Dead Man on Campus, too; he was approaching the levels of hot he is today. He grew up NICE.

Man, I love F&B a lot. Pretty well every character is awesome and does their bit to steal the episodes. I love Pindy and the sarcastic prosecutor who always digs on Bash. Waiting for something more to happen with her character.
