It Takes Two To Make a Thing Go Wrong

I do not approve of Marcus stalking Josh. Don't you be hurting Josh, Marcus.

The vampire!porn is a lot different in this show than the UK-version - comes from vamps being able to be seen on camera in this one, I suppose.

Ah, her name is Nora in this one, instead of Nina. That's way too close. Change it more, show! I actually like her more than Nina, so far.

"Is it true what they say about Aidan and Bishop?"

Emily coming to live with them for a while! Nothing like this happened in the UK series. There was no Emily (which is a shame because I'm finding myself very fond of her).

Ah, Sally is having revenge fantasies. Hard to blame her for that. Danny was a possessive, abusive jerk who killed her.

Ah-ha. The three of them trying to act normal around Emily is a beautiful thing. Emily = best addition ever.

Nora and Josh continue to be cuter than I remember Nina and George being. Hey, maybe he's not destined to be an asshole to her in this version!

"I'm Josh."
"Ah, right, the boyfriend." Yeah, Danny still thinks that Aidan and Josh are a couple, doesn't he?

Marcus hurting Emily = so much badness. Emily is a sweetheart.

I See Your True Colors... And That's Why I Hate You

The "how long have you thought you were a werewolf?" shocker from the dad was great. I couldn't breathe that entire scene, because I was half-laughing and half-shocked along with Josh.

I kinda love how Aidan does realize 100% that Bishop will be totally put out if Marcus manages to kill Aidan (and Marcus realizes it, too, which is why he wants to do it secretly). And Aidan being all protective of Josh and his family is cute.

Children Shouldn't Play With Undead Things

You know, I have to wonder if Aidan wasn't actually being more selfish in the last episode, re: Josh's parents. Because he seems to encourage Josh's relationship with Nora - something that is happening in Boston, but when Josh wants to reconnect with his family, who live in Ithaca, it's way too dangerous for him to get close to the people he cares about. Seems like a double-standard. If Josh's family lived in Boston, would Aidan still have pushed as hard for Josh to leave them alone?

"It's as though you're an artist and awkward is your medium." Ha. Nora kinda has Josh's number there.

One thing I've noticed is that this cast touches each other a lot less. They maintain more physical distance than the UK cast did. Just interesting.

I Want You Back (From The Dead)

The guy who plays Josh reminds me a little of James Spader. Anyone else get that from him?

Awww, Aidan called Josh his best friend. Josh, it's not nice to kick your best friend out. JS. Also, you guys should try hugging sometime. It might be good for you. Aidan, especially, is teetering on the edge. On the other hand, having seen Josh's family, I get where his stand-off-ish comes from. Not exactly a warm and fuzzy family. Plus, he projects a lot. He has a lot of self-hate and projects it on his friends. Josh, you are emotionally unhealthy (well, all three of them are).

Rebecca's attempts to play house were... a really bad idea. Really bad. I think she may have watched/read Interview With a Vampire and gotten the wrong things out of it.

So... Bishop sent Marcus to kill the kids. Cold, dude. And it's interesting to see that Bishop and Rebecca are definitely working different angles.

Dog Eat Dog

Josh got taken! Do not approve. And the Sally-Josh conversation was so cute, too. He's awkward and bad at showing affection, but he does like her.

Josh is... he's kinda more consistent than George, I'd say. George could be really sweet or he could be awful sometimes. And Josh is just... generally awkward.

The whole 'dog fight' thing is pretty disgusting.

"Why don't you ask Bishop extra-super-sweetly?"

vs.

"Josh is the only family I've got."

Kinda an interesting contrast. Build families vs. forced families. Aidan was a part of the big vampire family and he chose something else but they (Bishop) refuse to let him go. Josh is the family that Aidan has chosen. And Aidan and the vampires is what Bishop chose. Conflict.

Oh, hey, wolf-Josh seemed to recognize Aidan. That was interesting. Trying to remember if that ever happened in the UK version and I think I remember wolf-George having a moment with Nina but I don't remember one with Mitchell.

Also, Rebecca, seriously, you knew Bernie for a day. Goodness, that woman can fixate like nobody's business.

Going Dutch

Marcus is so bitter over how much Bishop wants/cares/etc about Aidan. Very jealous.

Aidan really hates Bishop's plan. Well, no surprise, given that Bishop was all 'yeah, might end up being mass-murder or enslavement of humanity, no big'.

*blinks*

Love? Was I... was I supposed to be reading Aidan/Rebecca as a love story all this time? Because I haven't been. She said 'love' and I was just all, 'where did that come from?'

I mean. They had affection and a shared condition. Love, though? Really? I wasn't seeing that. Was I supposed to?

Danny is such a slimeball.

I'm choosing not to have an opinion on Nora being pregnant. These things never go well for supernatural tv shows. Either there's a miscarriage or the baby ends up being evil. Occasionally, there's a hell dimension, for a little variety.

Oh, hey, realized who Bishop is reminding me of - the Master from S1 of Buffy. He also was on a 'modernizing vampirism' kick.

You're The One That I Haunt

Yeah, Aidan's a little on edge.

At 28:09, Josh looks like Christian from Verbotene Liebe.

"You know that I wasn't going to kill him."
"You were."
"For Sally... also because of the stuff I've been going through-"
"There it is."
"But mostly for Sally."

I think that Bishop just explicitly compared himself and Aidan to a romantic relationship. (also, wow, you are so creepy, Bishop)

Heh, I like Celine. I do kinda wish she'd told him what really happened, but I get why she didn't.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Me Killing You

Ah, Aidan's been on and off and on the wagon for years. I wonder how long the longest he's gone has been.

Oh, I'm glad Celine told him the truth about what happened and about Bishop.

Different ending to the season, with Aidan killing Bishop. Sort of a fake-out to the fake-out (especially for people who had seen the UK finale). I'm... kinda sad that Josh doesn't get the equivalent of George's truly awesome speech.

*sigh*

I was also hoping that Nora wouldn't get scratched like Nina did. Especially since it wasn't telegraphed here like it was in the UK version. Seriously, we have to keep all the things I didn't like but dump my favorite stuff? What's that about?

I don't mean to imply that I didn't like anything about the finale - totally not true. Just... they did keep the things that I liked least while getting rid of a couple of my favorite things.

Overall... I think that I liked the first season of the UK series better than this one (that first season was so perfect). However, I'm not sure whether or not this one is going to go sour the way that the UK one did for me. So... I will definitely check out S2, especially with the exciting casting spoiler that I mentioned.

This version does objectify women a lot more than I remember the UK series doing, which is a problem for me. But they also have Josh actually having a family that appears on screen and having Emily, who I adore to pieces. I'm kinda sad at how little the threesome touch each other in the US series. There was a lot more hugging in the UK series. Seriously, is hugging not something people do in Boston? What's with that?

Other thoughts: Mitchell is cuter than Aidan, and Annie is cuter than Sally, but Josh is cuter than George. Danny managed to be a lot creepier than Owen because he seemed nicer on the surface. Owen was obviously a creep, but Danny managed to hide it pretty well for a while, which felt disturbingly real.

Liked Lauren better than Rebecca. I did like that Ray didn't sexually assault Sally. That was a good change. Bishop was way more of a jealous and bitter ex-boyfriend than Herrick ever was. Might be why the show decided to have Aidan kill him instead of Josh doing it.

I do like that there wasn't an almost-kiss between Aidan and Sally. Never really liked that bit in the UK series (I think I read that Mitchell and Annie hook up at some point in the UK series, but that was after I'd stopped watching).
