butterfly1. Jacob Lusk - Man in the Mirror
Oh, I wish he hadn't done a song that I associate so much with Kris (I've listened to every performance that Kris has given of this cover, I'm pretty sure - or at least every performance that has been captured on camera).
Jacob'll probably do fine when it comes to the votes. He didn't do it badly - just that, I could hear the echo of Kris and I kept wishing that I was hearing Kris instead.
So, yes, totally unfair of me. But there you go.
2. Haley Reinhart - Piece of my Heart
Fantastic! Haley's tone and vibe suited this song really well. I think she did an amazing job.
3. Casey Abrams – Have You Ever Seen The Rain
Like last week, Casey has taken it down and stopped the screaming and that's working better. Quite liked it.
4. Lauren Alaina – Natural Woman
So, Gwen Stefani is the person to blame for the horrible outfit Lauren is wearing?
I always feel like I'm missing something when it comes to this song. Some piece that would make it... make sense to me. There's just... yeah, this song. There's something about it that I just don't get.
Steven Tyler, please don't talk about her now being a woman. I'm pretty sure she's still only sixteen (or possibly seventeen).
5. James Durbin – While My Guitar Gently Weeps
He has a sweet voice when he brings it down. He's got some versatility. We saw it a bit with "Maybe I'm Amazed" but more so with this song. Not sure he needed that note at the end. I guess it was because of Will.ia.am's advice? It felt out of place to me. The beginning was a little weak, but overall, it was good.
6. Scotty McCreery – That’s All Right Mama
Yay! I wanted him to sing Elvis! I was so hoping!
Such a good job. I think he did a great balance of bringing in some Elvis-elements into his style - and did I catch a hip shimmy there in the middle? Good for you, Scotty. I really do think this kid has a very bright future ahead of him in the music industry.
7. Pia Toscano – River Deep, Mountain High
Another hideous outfit for the women tonight. Oh, Gwen Stefani, what did those poor girls do to you for you to punish them like this?
So, Pia. She's a great technical singer but... there's just something missing.
8. Stefano Langone – When A Man Loves a Woman
He sounded nice tonight, but, like Pia, that extra bit of something isn't there.
9. Paul McDonald – Folsom Prison Blues
High-energy. He was having fun with it tonight.
Favorites: Haley, Scotty
Going home: I'm going to vote for Stefano.
