I have some thoughts about what I think, suspect, or hope will happen when the show comes back next week.
I think that Rose is going to die. And, despite the fact that I do like her character, I think that she should and needs to die in order to establish the danger of the werewolf bite to our three vampire main characters (Stefan, Damon, Caroline). If they find a cure, then they've basically eliminated the werewolf threat in the same breath they brought it up, which would seem pointless.
(not that they can't be pointless sometimes - what, exactly, was the point of Stefan being in the tomb for all of a day or two?)
If they decide to have a main character bitten later in the season, it's likely to be Damon or Caroline over Stefan, just for narrative drama. Stefan getting bit would result in a very predictable drama - everyone helps, there's no particular weight there and no true worry that Stefan will get killed off. There's narrative unpredictability in character reactions when it comes to Damon and an actual possibility that they might kill her if it were Caroline. So, either of them would be more interesting (but if they kill Caroline, I'll get very miffed at them).
From the 2x14 synopsis, I learned that the Gilberts have a lake house ("Stefan and Elena get away for what they hope will be a romantic weekend at the Gilbert family lake house, not realizing that they’ve been followed"). This was apparently not important information when Jenna was in mortal danger from Katherine, but is essential info when Stefan and Elena want to go off somewhere for discreet nookie. This show (family?) has screwed up priorities sometimes, gotta say (also, their 'playing normal' game of denial sounds like it's going to have bad consequences again. Will they ever learn?).
It also sounds like we might actually get some 'Damon with the council' scenes, which I'm looking forward to very much.
In random news of the 'cute' variety, apparently Ian (Damon) and Nina (Elena) and their families spent part of Christmas together (in Idaho). Aw, that's sweet.
