Serenity Now: Equality and Joss and Stuff
Jun. 22nd, 2006 12:55 pmSo, you may or may not have heard that the Browncoats went and got together with Joss' favorite charity, Equality Now, and there are 47 showings in various places around the world, near or on Joss' birthday, with the proceeds going to benefit the charity.
I'm going to be going to the Portland one with this upcoming Friday (which is to say, tomorrow) and that particular show is not sold out, as I understand it, and neither are several others.
So, if you like Serenity (or want to give it a try) or like equality (and trust Equality Now) and you can spare the $10 and the Friday/Saturday night, check the website and see if your city is on there.
And, hey, if you're in Portland and going, I'm thinking of wearing my bright red-orange Cirque du Soleil shirt, so feel free to come up to me and ask if I'm butterfly.
I leave you with a quote from Joss:
Equality is not a concept. It's not something we should be striving for. It's a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it to stand on this earth as men and women. And the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance and that inbalance is sucking the soul out of every man and woman who's confronted with it. We need equality, kinda now.

I know how that can be -- my brother comes up for random visits sometimes and my mom's always going off somewhere, so you don't always know who is going to be where when.
Still, I wish I'd gotten a chance to meet you! I don't know how often you get the chance to go as far out as Hillsboro, but my roomie and I have an open door policy during Sci-Fi Fridays. Sometimes it's just the two of us, sometimes we have several other people there. If you're interested or available, let me know and I can give you the address (though I can understand if you prefer to meet internet people in public first, in case they're axe murderers and such).
Wish I'd noticed you when you were checking out the line (in fact, I might have -- I think I heard someone calling out that the show was sold out, but wasn't in a position to see who it was!).
