Doctor Who: Nervous about S5?

arabian was wondering if there would be enough interest around to start up some kind of lj-comm where people who are rather cautious about Series Five of Doctor Who (specifically because of qualms about the new show runner) could talk without getting in the way of people who are whole-heartedly enthusiastic about the changes that the show will be making in the future.

It would, in theory, exist for people regardless of whether or not they're currently planning on watching S5 and would focus on critical analysis and S5 news discussion. It would be a place where people who do very much love Doctor Who can talk about reasons they might be nervous/scared/not planning to watch S5.

I definitely do have my reservations about Season Five and it's not just because of David leaving. I'm a little scared about where SM is planning on taking the show. So, I would love to join a community like that!

A fearthefuture community sounds like a plan, especially if it can be secure. It wouldn't necessarily have to be 2010-specific, it could be needed for a few years yet!

I'm not that cautious but I am apprehensive about the practically being a reboot situation even though the show has survived many such reboots. So I would be interested in joining the community. I'm certainly planning on watching S5 one way or another. However, at this point, I'm not sure I'm planning to spend $100 on the DVDs...

I'm rather curious about how RTD is planning on setting up the reboot (I read somewhere that Moffat did request that RTD leave off at a certain situation -- however detailed that might have been, I think no idea).

And it would be good to have at least one person in the group who is planning on watching S5! Gives a bit of balance to things.

We had a lovely incident this weekend where sugarsicons and I had to listen to a 5 minute speech on how amazing Moffat was and how beautiful the Library episodes were. The person finished talking and there was dead awkward silence for a full minute. It was kind of beautiful, actually. LOL.

I would definitely be interested providing it didn't fill up with haters and hating. I *am* uneasy about the show's direction with almost the entire creative team changing over, and I certainly have some misgivings about the Moff's approach, but I think I would find blind Moff-hating as unpleasant as I do RTD-hating currently. :)

As I mentioned to butterfly when I first broached the idea in my journal: I didn't mean just a place to vent negatively about Moffat, which is why I deliberately did not call it an ANTI-Moffat group.

We'll all likely be following it if only for our great love of the show and curiosity to see what's going to happen. And like how her thread the other day about the crew leaving basically became a place where those of us with like-minds thought and allowed our feelings to come forth without being defensive. Also, we can discuss Moffat episodes and such without worrying about the Moffat-brigade getting on our backs.

Basically, I was just thinking of a place where those of us who are Who fans who don't worship Moffat, and it's a place where we can openly discuss him and the changes with the show.

Thank you for letting my friend you butterfly, just to reasure, I'm not a troll (though I suppose if I was I wouldn't exactly say, but still) I'm new to livejournal, but have spent along time reading your journal (and nodding my head so hard I was afraid I 'd get a head version of carpal tunnel syndrome)And was so glad to find someone who has my serious concers when it comes to Moffet, I tend to overanalyse so I'd been telling myself that I was reading to much into his storys.

The das thing with me is, I'm a glutten for punishment everytime I read the synopsis for one of his episodes I get excited and think maybe this time it would be differnet, when it came to SoTL I actually enjoyed the first episode )and on knowing at that time he was taking over was relieved) aside from a few niggles (Miss evangelista, the doctor lying for seemingly no reason) but I ignored them, looking forward to the next episode before having it all dashed.

The thing is, dispite all my protests to my family and friends I know I'll cave and watch the moment I read the episode synopsis in the tv guide of the first episode of season 5, so I think I'm going to need somewhere to decompress afterwards.

No new story stuff -- a BBC Wales source said that Murray Gold is leaving after the specials.

Oh you know I'm up for discussing fears about season 5. For that matter I have fear/apathy for the specials even though I have hope they;ll good. But anything Moffat touches should be feared.

Just wanted to say I fully support your idea of a community - but I probably won't be joining it myself, simply because I'm trying to go into S5 without any expectations at all, good or bad. And I know that if I join a discussion community I will invariably form opinions!

I have not shared with you my Moffat-issues and... I won't start. It would take all day. Plus, if you can enjoy the Moffat run, then I don't want to get in the way of that.
