butterfly: (Believe -- Donna)
[personal profile] butterfly

So, I've previously asked, "What did Rose see when she looked in the TARDIS?"

After seeing this trailer, I've got another question -- what did Gwyneth see?

"The things you've seen... the darkness... the big bad wolf." And we mostly just assumed that 'the darkness' meant the dark and dangerous things that Rose would face. Except in this trailer, Rose says that what's coming is 'the darkness'. Did Gwyneth see a hint of this in Rose's future? What's so 'the' about this darkness?

I love the way the Doctor says, "Yeah," when Donna says that Rose coming back is good, no matter what else is happening. Because, yes, it is. No matter what else is going on, Rose coming back is a good thing.

So, Rose saying, "Right, now we're in trouble," strike anyone else as very Doctor-ish?

Also, was the top half of one of those Daleks in the trailer enveloped in darkness? Interesting.

Now, for your moment of squee:

ROSE! YAY!

Rose sounds incredibly Doctor-ish throughout. I noticed it when she's talking to Donna, but the "now we're in trouble" is Doctor-ish as well.

Agreeing with the squee.

I'm so excited about seeing Rose. And she's definitely changed since she's been gone (appropriately enough, as the Doctor has, too).

The squee is hard to get rid of, at the very least controlled today. ^_^"

I do have to agree that Rose does a bit Doctor-ish throughout the trailer. It'll be very interesting to see/hear what has happened to her and how much time has come and gone for her.

Oh and thank you! I've been trying to remember where else I had heard "the Darkness" bit and Gwyneth was definitely one of them. I wonder if that phrase has come up anywhere else.

I could be wrong with this, but I think that the darkness was mentioned in the ep where Torchwood started, with Queen Victoria? (I can't even remember the name of it :$). Anyway, that's just coming to mind for some reason, so maybe it is mentioned. :) But the Gwyneth thing is totally cool. I wonder if they'll ever tie her into Torchwood's Gwen.

After seeing this trailer, I’ve got another question—what did Gwyneth see?

Things really are coming full circle, aren’t they? I thought last week’s reference to “The Unquiet Dead” was just a joke, but… *grins*

No matter what else is going on, Rose coming back is a good thing.

That’s pretty much how I feel about the finale at the moment. No matter what else happens, I’ll get to see Rose again. I can’t quite bring myself to care about anything else.

Now, for your moment of squee: ROSE! YAY!

OMG ROSE!!!

Well, in theory, since it's all going to be his story now, what he does will matter in S5. However since he doesn't actually seem to remember anything but gags between each of his own prior episodes and has stated that he doesn't think that DW needs continuity... yeah, not so much, I think.

I haven't watched the trailer yet, but didn't "the darkness" get mentioned a few times on Torchwood with no follow up? Either Owen or Jack talked about "the darkness" waiting or coming for them...or something.

Oh, my. Oh my oh my oh my. You're right. It absolutely DID get mentioned. And in such an utterly cheesy way with no follow-up whatsoever that it annoyed me highly, but then I decided not think about it anymore because Torchwood makes my head hurt like that.

I'm going to have to rewatch Torchwood S2 now, won't I?

And I haven't seen SJA, but maybe someone knows if it may have been mentioned there, as well?

Yeah. Suzie mentioned specifically that something in the darkness was coming for Jack, I think.

Speculation: if the darkness is death, then the 'thing coming for Jack' is actually Rose as Bad Wolf, bringing him back to life whenever he slips into that darkness.

It's a relief that the Doctor appears to be pleased that Rose is back...one concern was that her return might be so bogged down in angst that the story might suffer, but this doesn't look set to be the case, thank God. Looks like they are going to just tell the rest of her story, and hopefully give her a more satisfying closure than sobbing on a Norway beach. Because that was a sucky ending for her and is probably why so many people went a bit batshit for a while after Doomsday. To see Rose in the trailer, so determined and carrying that kick-ass gun...she has grown in her abscence, and that is what I wanted to see. I'm not doubting there won't be some kind of angst but it does look like her return might just resolve the issues that so many had with her character.

I am definitely hoping that we'll get some quality character stuff for Rose. It looks like she's been through a lot of the same emotions that we saw the Doctor go through after losing her so it's easier to interpolate the middle for her.

Mostly, I'm just bubbling over with joy from knowing that we'll see more of her. I've missed her so much.

I didn't realise I'd missed her as much as I have until that first cinema trailer. I've been excited for her return since then. My mum, who is only a casual Doctor Who viewer compared to me, saw a bit of the mid-season trailer yesterday and even she got excited over Rose. Like it or not, the character has a masssive fanbase or at least recoginition, and I don't think her comeback is fan-pandering but a way to fix the mistakes made with her exit scenes. If the trailer is anything to go by, with Rose being so strong and fighting, I think that someone, somewhere realised they screwed up big time by having Rose's "last" scene of her crying on a beach and this is them trying to set things right.

I was skepcial about Rose's return to begin with but I think it's desperately needed now because she really didn't get the closure she deserved the first time and I can see why so many fans got so vocal and upset. I really do hope her comeback will offer a better sense of closure than Doomsday did.

Well, I think that the lack of closure was very intentional because they were planning on bringing her back. Having the Doctor not actually get the chance to finish his last words to her and then pretty much the entirety of S3 was showing us the Doctor's grief in losing her and the unfinished goodbye point to that for me. I'm glad that Rose is coming back on a storytelling level as well as a personal level because it just makes more sense.

Weren't the Toclafane scared of "the darkness," too? In their case, it seems to have been the end of the universe itself. Hmm!
