Doctor Who: The Doctor's Daughter
May. 10th, 2008 02:18 pmOh, brilliant. Everyone does it and he can even feel it happening. Not a surprise, but also a very good reason why he's never felt her before -- until they came here, she didn't exist (and I'm amused by the Doctor's explanation at the end. The TARDIS's freakout created her own paradox. Oh, TARDIS. She's really getting quite the emotional workout, what with opening the Vortex to Rose, getting nearly killed several times, freaking out when Jack hugged her, getting taken over by the Master and whatnot).
I have to say -- Martha is being amazing with the Hath. Firm, sympathetic, every inch a doctor. Really great.
Jenny is... I love her. And we're getting more out of the Doctor about the Time War because of her -- he can realize that he's a soldier too but without the bite of comparing himself to a Dalek.
And she couldn't kill him. The hug! I just... I really like Jenny.
Heartbreaking final scene with the Doctor and Jenny (and I did get those "Father's Day" echoes I was anticipating -- the kiss on the forehead, in particular).
This was, I think, the best episode for Martha yet.
Loved Jenny and I'm so glad that she's not only alive, she's out there ready to do the same sort of things that the Doctor does. I hope that means we'll see her again, but if we don't, there's another person who is a bit of the Doctor's legacy (like Martha, like Jack, like Sarah Jane, like Rose and Mickey).
And they have Donna tell Martha that she plans on being with the Doctor forever (another echo of Rose). Fascinating and really well-done to show us the different ways that Martha and Donna are approaching travelling with the Doctor -- like Rose, Donna sees it as a lifestyle change/choice, while for Martha it really was 'the trip of a lifetime' but not her life.
