butterfly: (5TP -- Torchwood)

Because I'm currently stuck at school (I have two finals today -- I've done one and must now wait around until the other one starts), I can't watch Torchwood. This doesn't, however, mean that I can't talk about it!

Also!

Unpopular Torchwood Opinions

1. Gwen is fabulous. I adore her and I have since the very first episode. I think she's brave and fun and interestingly flawed. I agree with the interviews that call her the 'heart' of the team (compare the TW team in "Everything Changes" to the one this season -- miles different! They're like a family now). I think she has absolutely amazing chemistry with the other characters. I love her relationship with Rhys and her tension with Jack and her "we had sex and now we're really good mates" thing with Owen and her "we giggle about Jack together" friendship with Ianto and what little we get to see of her friendship with Tosh (requests more Tosh/Gwen screentime!). I think that Eve and John absolutely glow on screen together (most recent lovely example is the cuddling post-saveage in "Something Borrowed" but they have been Hot Stuff together since the gun scene). I love that she screws up (see: RetCon-ing Rhys) and then learns from her mistakes (see: refusing to RetCon Rhys). I love that she just takes over for Jack sometimes and he lets her (and sometimes they have confrontations and he folds like a cheap fan -- "Give Rhys my love and I'll see you tomorrow!"). I adore Gwen. She is great.

2. Jack is not gay. No, really, he isn't. He's omnisexual. That means that when he flirts with girls (including Gwen) it's perfectly in character. No, really, it is. I promise.

3. Jack and Ianto came out of nowhere. It was totally spontaneous generation. However, as Ianto is being snarky and lovely and I like them kissing, I forgive the show for a truly appalling lack of character continuity. Because they kiss really pretty.

EDIT: After reminders from flist about early flirting, am considering calling "Cyberwoman" the "Girl in the Fireplace" of TW, what with random character development that means nothing in the next episode... except that Lisa has mattered later on. Perhaps I will just be in tune with fandom and declare "Cyberwoman" poorly-done! Interesting concept, crappy execution. And thus, as GiTF gets a shake of the head from me in regards to the emotional plotlines of the season, so shall "Cyberwoman" and Jack/Ianto will no longer feel so random to me.

I think that's all for now. I may think of more later, if I get too bored waiting for class to start.
