Be All My Sins Remember'd

Sam Carter kicks so much ass. Dressing down Ellis for riding Rodney; all of her interactions with Rodney (particularly the gleeful mind-melding scientists moment); just her general coolness and practical nature (and, because of her dual military/science background, she understands both John and Rodney better than Elizabeth did, at least on a professional level). And, in rewatching SG-1 with my mom, I can see her getting more and more ready to take on a command position -- with SG-1, she couldn't be in a true command position because Daniel and Teal'c were both her friends before they were anything else (and Daniel, especially, acted that way, though they both respect the dickens out of her). But she can take the way she had to allow them to go their own way at times and successfully apply it to letting John and Rodney do what they need to do without trying to do everything herself. She was just fabulous and I adored her.

Speaking of Rodney -- squee! He was every kind of wonderful in this episode, from "Sam! We're geniuses!" to his ever-evolving attitute to FRAN (speaking of... I loved her.). And, of course, going off with John to have dinner at the end of the episode -- they still spend more time with each other than anyone else.

Going over to John, the one part of the episode that I wasn't thrilled with was the Return of Larrin (who I hated, yet again -- also, what was the point of tying Sheppard up and where the hell were Ronon, Teyla, and the Wraith during all this? Seriously, John just let himself be tied up? Seriously?). But I do love how Joe Flanigan can be given very clichéd UST lines to say to Larrin and sound so uncomfortable with the straightness of it all that he comes across as more gay than ever. He's trying to talk her into giving him a way to contact him and looks like he wishes he could be anywhere else, talking to anyone else (and then, of course, the second he gets back on base, he goes off to have dinner with Rodney and is instantly so much more comfortable).

Then we have his reaction to finding out that Teyla's pregnant and (more significantly) that she's been withholding that information from her commanding officer for two months. Oh, John. He really hates not having all the necessary intel. And the fact that he found out about the pregnancy because Teyla has to check and see if the stunning has done any damage... yeah, not the best way. Teyla, of course, needed time to adjust to the notion herself and to figure out how to tell him, so it sucks that she had to tell him when she wasn't quite ready yet.

Ronon was adorable. "Ronon is a good name for a boy or a girl." Aw. *draws sparkly hearts around him*

I'm excited about Elizabeth as a villian. I was never the biggest Weir fan, but I nothing against Torri, so I'll be intrigued to see her doing something a bit different from what's she's gotten to do in the past.

SG-1 as a unit was never big on orders regardless of who was in command. Not that the others didn't respect Jack, or Sam, or Cam, or refused to follow orders when they were given, but the group dynamic has always been a bit flexible in who's calling the shots, at least partly because in any given situation someone other than the commanding officer might be more qualified to make the call. That really gets magnified in some of the season 9 episodes where Daniel is actively ordering Cam around.

Leadership is stronger when the central element is knowing your team's strengths and staying out of their way as they use them. (Of course, that assumes that one's team has strengths and is capable of doing what needs to be done, but that's not really an issue with SG-1.)

So true. And I really feel that Sam understands that and has learned that through her time with SG-1. I'm really enjoying her on SGA.

YES!

I know! He looks so tense and uncomfortable--not that all my fierce flirts were COMFY per se, but it was obvious to both parties that we WANTED to be in each other's presence. John? Not so much.

Ronon ROCKS MY WORLD!!!!!!!!!

Yes. It really does feel like he desperately doesn't want to be standing there with her.

"Sam! We're geniuses!"

You reminded me just how much I loved that line! It was such a marker of growth for him - just as much as the way Sam defended him at the beginning of the ep was for her. This was the ep that really establishes that they're done being rivals now and can just really get into the groove of working together - which is wonderful to watch!

They've gotten to be so sweet together. I'm so glad that they've worked past all the weirdness of their past and can appreciate each other.
