Comment on this post. I will choose seven userpics from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.
threerings chose seven of my icons.
1.
This is a reference to a Discworld book, Night Watch. It was made by most_suspicious. If you haven't read the book, I would highly recommend it (I'd recommend the whole Discworld series, actually -- it has several subseries (each with a different vibe) plus some standalones, so there's something for everyone). Anyway, it's a reference to a revolutionary-type thing that happens in the book.
2.
This icon was born because people were dissing on Smallville's Lois Lane, calling her a bimbo and implying that because she has nice breasts, she has no brains. This was irritating to many people, so clari_clyde made icons.
3.
An icon that I made for myself back during my Star Wars period. It's my general icon for Imperial-period SW or for het-related incesty vibes. Plus, I think it's pretty.
4.
A Doctor Who icon by nicole9514 that I picked up because I wanted an icon that had Rose with both versions of her Doctor. Mostly, I think it's all kinds of adorable and use it when I'm talking about the adorableness of D/R or I'm feeling giggly and close to someone on my flist.
5.
Created by xanphibian and picked up when I went looking for Heroes icons. I really wanted to grab a Claire/Peter icon and I adored the way this one looks -- the line between them and how they're looking at each other through it, because they do have this connection (it's biological. *giggles*). I came into the show knowing that Claire and Peter were related and also knowing that many people shipped them before their family connection was known (and many of those people continued to ship them). Their relationship struck me as very 'white knight' and shippy, even knowing the family connection and I've spent most of their screentime being highly amused (and making reference to what Peter says about his relationship with Nathan in the pilot -- they have a connection. it's biological. Because it truly cracks me up).
6.
A Doctor Who icon created by ivydoor. Because the fifth doctor is made of awesome. Also used when I'm making a point that I'm particularly pleased with or if I'm talking about Old School Doctor Who and my Susan & First Doctor icon isn't appropriate.
7.
I made this icon after watching the movie Maurice and reading up on the author of the original book and seeing what else he'd written. I use this when I'm reaching out to someone or trying to find common ground with them or I'm sharing something personal but not painful enough for my 'scars' icon.

Date: 2007-10-14 08:11 pm (UTC)I love Discworld, but I don't think I've read Night Watch yet. Also, the boob-icon is fantastic.

Also, the boob-icon is fantastic.
I'm very fond of it (and quite annoyed by 'feminists' who judge a woman based on her bra size).
Icons!

And your post reminds me I need Who icons!
Who icons are one of life's joys.
So, yes, icons!

They really are! I always love yours. :D
Hee, thank you! It was a lot of fun! I so over-shared at first, I had to edit down but that was actually fun too.

Date: 2007-10-15 03:47 am (UTC)Interesting choice. I love butterflies, especially blue ones. My best friend (who just had a birthday) took this one along with many others that day. She gave me several of them. I needed one that was orange, so when I inverted it, it would be blue. This one turned out amazing and it is one of my favorite icons. I use it for messages filtered for her.
This is the first of Josephine Wall's that you chose. I met her today and had her autograph my book. She was amazingly nice and also let me choose some cards of her to autograph as well. My standard net name is lunasea16. I didn't use it on LJ because of major drama going on over at another board. I'm thinking of changing it here. The pic is a crop of one of my favorites of hers, Moon Goddess. The quote is from Alanis Morisette's Precious Illusions. At the time, I was taking backgrounds of Josephine Wall's and putting them with lyrics of songs that describe me better than I could.
This is the other pic done by Josephine Wall. It is from her painting "Love is in the Air." I use it when I am writing something mushy or romantic, typically something my wonderful Hubby has done for me.
These three icons were pre-photoshop for me.
I found this pic when I was looking for pics to label my bipolar entries. At one point, I had it lumped with them, but we are all mixed up, so I put it with the general icons.
Those squares in the lower right corner means it came from Epilogue. The site used to have an icon section. I used to have more, but I got rid of them because I needed the room for ones I made. I think it is the only one that survived the cut. I used to use it for most of my political posts.
This is the very first icon that won an icontest for me. I used to use it when entering any icontest. Since I have won others, now I use it for just that contest. The original is found in this entry.
I wanted to do an animated icon to the chorus of Rush's "Free Will." I must have quoted it a million times when talking about Angel. I love the song and a few weeks before I made it, I saw them in concert. I started collecting pics for it. I started with "I will choose free will." I wanted Eve. While looking for pics for an icontest, I came across the art of James Griffin. I found my Eve. Then I needed the rest of the chorus. Some of his pics fit perfectly. I decided to use all his paintings to unify it. It won my first non-mod choice banner. The finished animated icon, the original pic and how I made it is here
I hope I got all those links right.
