Pre-Sci-Fi Friday thoughts
Feb. 17th, 2006 12:09 amMy only must-see TV at the moment is Sci-Fi Friday (there are other shows that I watch as time and interest allow).
My most intense fannish love at the moment is Stargate (as evidenced by my last couple of vids). I'm very much in love with the original show, and I'm vastly fond of its spinoff. It's funny, that I only fell in love with the show not quite two years ago (in the break between seasons 7 and 8), but I've already cycled back to intense glee with it (odd experience -- rewatching the VividCon dvds and remembering that when I first bought the 2003 ones, Banging on the Door was one of the vids that I skipped because I had no clue about the fandom and believed myself to have no interest in it).
I'm really glad that I fell in love with the show after Daniel had already left and come back. Because he's definitely the focal point of my love (though I adore Jack and Teal'c and now Cameron, and Sam a lot of the time, and several of the non-main characters as well) and I'm pretty sure that I would have gone crazy with missing him if I'd tried watching S6 in real time (in fact, judging by my behavior in Angel after Doyle's death, I might have boycotted six altogether).
I would, in fact, totally watch The Daniel Jackson Show (I would also watch The Michael Shanks Variety Hour, but that's between me and my shallow, shallow heart) if it were available. I would watch the 'Daniel Spends An Hour Each Week Learning An Alien Language' show. Watching Daniel makes me happy. Just... happy in this simple, easy way. I like watching him, like watching Michael Shanks be him (my all-time favorite episode is Meridian because Michael is just so very good there).
So, I don't really have any kind of solid review type stuff with SG-1 at the moment, simply because I'm too busy being in love with Daniel.
Right now, Atlantis is all about the Rodney/John for me. They work better as a pair (though I have a not-so-secret fondness for Rodney/Sam, as I rewatched Redemption recently and she gets so cute and snarky with him -- "Before I take the credit for this, shouldn't it be pointing at the Stargate?" or something adorable like that. And Rodney's adorable response -- "You're very good." all sarcastic and yet completely sweet at the same time. Aw.).
On Battlestar, I'm enjoying just letting it wash over me. I want to have more of a chance to absorb the show before I start deciding what I think about it.

Date: 2006-02-17 08:44 am (UTC)I sort of did boycott the show during S6. Daniel is very much a focal point for me. (I think I would identify more with Sam if the writer's were a little more consistent).
And I'm having thoughts about a silly SG-1 vid, so I may start picking your brain for suggestions. :)

There are times when I love Sam quite a bit (I'm enjoying her a lot this season) and times when... not so much.

I'd love to hear more.
Oh! I'm trying to figure out how encoding works (because I'd like to submit a vid to VividCon in a couple of months). Did you know if the video part is supposed to end up, like, thirty seconds shorter/faster? Or if I did something wrong in the set-up? If not, do you know a good person to ask?

Date: 2006-02-20 11:13 pm (UTC)Many/most of the vidders we know are PC vidders who use premiere: Lum, sisabet, f1renze, here's luck, dualbunny, Eunice, permetaform, lierdumoa, lithium_doll, etc.
(Exception - Destina doesn't use Premiere IIRC), (Mac vidders using Final Cut - tzikeh, laura, killa, morgandawn, gwyn, barkley, sdwolfpup, jackiekjono)
Honestly I may drop the planned SG vid. It was supposed to be for Club Vivid. I never did figure out what caused the serious problems I had last year. Then file looked *fine* in iMovie and it was so *not* fine on the DVD. Apparently there are huge problems with the way iMovie handles interlaced frames, particulary with transitions and slow-mo, ff, reverse movement. I don't know that I have the energy to deal with this right now.

Date: 2006-02-20 05:51 pm (UTC)I too, was lucky, watching S6 of Stargate with the knowledge that he was coming back. I couldn't bring myself to watch "Meridian" at all until I heard this news, so it's an episode I can truly love rather than hate.
Exactly -- watching it knowing that he'd be back meant that I truly could see it as part of his journey.

Date: 2006-02-20 05:52 pm (UTC)Yes, he does thwart my attempts at depth sometimes (generally by, you know, breathing, but sometimes he doesn't even need to be doing that).

Date: 2006-02-17 05:04 pm (UTC)Can you remind me what the plot of Meridian is? I've seen all the episodes like 4 times but I don't know most of them by title.
I think my favorite episode (at this moment in time) is Proving Ground. I like how Daniel gets the cushy part of being the bad guy. :)

Date: 2006-02-20 05:57 pm (UTC)Meridian is the very potentially tramautizing 'Daniel dies of radiation' episode. Michael Shanks is really, really good in it (as are RDA, AT, and CJ in their stifled mourning).
Daniel is so adorable in Proving Ground. And hot, like when he takes out the entire training team at the beginning. I could completely identify with Satterfield's crush on him.
