Life.

Life isn't just. Life isn't nice. Life has pain and terror and fear and hate.

Everyone knows that. You learn that like you learn that Santa Claus doesn't exist.

But life also has love and compassion and beauty.

Really everyone has two choices of what to believe. Either we're here for some reason or we aren't.

And we have two choices about life. We can accept the bad with the good or we can say that we don't deserve the pain.

Of course we don't. None of us do. It still happens. Regrets and fears don't change that.

The real question is whether the good things make it worth surviving through the bad things.

Are the friendships we make worth the pain we get from people who have decided, for some reason or another, to hurt us?

Can we find enough joy in small things to make the next day worth seeing?

It's the little things in life.

Like getting a teddy bear from a friend. Like listening to *NSYNC sing Gone in spanish. Like seeing your brother after he's spent months at college and you didn't know that you could ever be so happy to see him. Like watching a new episode of Buffy and laughing and smiling and crying and feeling like you know these unreal, these fictional people. Like seeing a feel-good movie and feeling good afterwards. Like curling up in bed, holding a fluffy, purring kitty. Like going onto LJ and reading new entries that make you laugh and smile and even cry.

These are the things that get me through each day and each hour of life.

These are the things that make this life thing worth facing.
