I've been thinking about what I said about my various OTPs and I just realized that there is a thread of commonality through all of them.
I 'ship the people who fit together in my eyes. And that's why I don't 'ship any particular kind of ship, be it 'best friends' or 'enemies' or what have you.
Because everyone is different and I look at it case by case.
I 'ship because of the people, not because of the relationship. My OTPs are always, always my two favorite characters in a fandom.
Buffy/Spike can never work for me because it strikes me as highly unhealthy for Buffy in so many ways (This is still true of souled!Spike. I can't see the good in having a sexual relationship with someone who attacked you.). Harry/Draco works for me because I can see it becoming healthy and good. It also has the chance to turn vicious, but H/D are still so young and Draco is nowhere near as hurtful as Spike.
Buffy/Xander works for me because, although they're similar and very close friends, they still fight and challenge each other in healthy ways - they always, always stop the fight before too long (Dead Man's Party; Revelations/Amends, Seeing Red). Harry/Ron don't work for me because Ron is fully willing to let things fester and turn bitter.
Justin/Lance works because they're not bestest friends in my head. You need to be able to have someone to talk to about your honey when they piss you off, and that's how I see Chris and Joey. As Best Friends, with capitals and all.
