Darla's fake husband's name is Stephen.
We see Angel looking through a window at an apparently happy domestic scene that's a lie.

Gives me shivers.

...never thought of that. Though "Dear Boy" was one of my favourite episodes that season. "God doesn't want you, but I still do."
Stephen: I always thought it interesting for Holtz to have given him this name. Because it wasn't Holtz' own name (Daniel); and it has the inevitable martyr connotations, which Holtz, being Catholic, would have been aware of.

It's such a brilliant episode (I'm really getting the urge to write up all this possible foreshadowing/paralleling).

And yeah, I'm wondering about Holtz' reasoning. Of course, Holtz was, yes, incredibly fucked up.

Tim Minear said repeatedly in interviews that Holtz doesn't actually lie once in "Benediction". He does love Connor, and he believes that Connor's destiny lies with Angel... in the sense of utterly ruining Angel's unlife, of course. Also, Holtz is aware that his actions are the only way to ensure Connor will always love him more.

Yeah, Holtz did love Connor. Just not as much as he hated Angel.
